Hey,
I have an auto TR SE magna
4 cylinder thing...

I was wondering if it screws up the transmission if you shift the gears manually. The car launches allot better when you start it in first but I dont do it often because I am scared for the tranny. My mate shifts it like that in his VN commodore and he hasnt blown it yet so I guess its ok..

But I wanted to get an oppinion from people who know what they are talking about..

So my question...Does shifting an Auto manually (1st-2nd-Drive) damage the transmission??

Thanks,
StockTRSE

i dont think so bud - otherwise it would just have "D" - drive

although revving it to 5 grand in nuetral and jamming it into first is going to screw it up pretty quickly id say - im sure some AM users have done that before :)

as long as the box shifts smoothly i dont think you have anything to worry about.

good luck 8)

Haha, havent tried that yet, not planning to either ;) ,
I was getting sick of the "drive" gear, its so bloody
sluggish going anywhere around 60. Its like it cant take
it or something. (I have not done any mods to the car)

now that I know it wont hurt the transmission "much" I will happily start cruisin like that (It would probably lose against anything in its current state)

I can tell ya the new 60 speed limits in Adelaide suck, especially for the
Magna being so shit at 60, Are there any mods to help
this????

cheers for that,

You won't have any problems shifting the gears manually and won't do any damage or put excess stress on your gearbox. Just don't rev it to 5 grand all the time lol.

I used to drive like that in my 2.6 TS all the time, and did it for over a year no problems.

And yes revving it to 5 grand in neutral and jamming it into drive does seriously hurt your tranny lol. But smokes up the hides nice and good :D

lol thx for the advice,

While we are on the topic of gearboxes, is there any easier way to get the wheels spin in a 2.6L Auto TR than slamming it from neutral to first? :P

I would love to hear it because i feel inferiour not being able to spin the wheels with all my friends having sixes :( lol

Any ideas would help,

ahh mate i feel for ya :)

i know exactly what u mean.

Well bad news, answer is no, except in the wet of course, but theres no fun.

The good news is you can do other *fun* things with it :)

Magna's do great handbrakies.

And they are also good for doing reverse doughies (also known as helis). But don't do it too often, its actually bad for your CV's. I've only done this in the dirt too, but its hella awesome!

Firstly this should have really been posted int eh TR/S section as it is what it pertains to.

This topic has been covered many times before however when downchanging, the auto will not allow you down shift if you are going to fast so you can do no damage there,
When accelerating, the only real damage I could see you doing is over reving.
