View Full Version : Pioneer DEH-2950/1950
Hey guys, this isn't strictly Magna related, but I figured the Car Audio section would still be alright to post in :)
What I want to know is if the Pioneer DEH-2950MP Head Unit (or 1950, if it comes with that it should come with the 2950) is supposed to come with the face trim that surrounds the Face Plate that gives a neat finish? I only ask because a few months back I got one installed by Strathfield (I know, shoot me) into my Corolla. I didn't pay much attention up until recently when I was looking at it and thought, geeze, it really should have come with something like the Sony one did that we just put in our TR to cover up the edges of the Din.
I've checked the manual and it mentions removing and installing the trim, but not whether it should be included or not. If its supposed to be there I'll have a shot at chasing it up with Stathies, but otherwise where do I get one? It would really look a lot nicer with a smooth finish.
Cheers guys.

i would imagine so, its just standard these days.
as to where to get one, try strathies again i guess
Thats what I was thinking, but I want to be sure before I go down there and probably argue the point with them over the counter for one.....
Not the only thing thats supposed to be in the box I didn't get, I haven't got the Sleeve thingy nor those little arms designed to slide it out of the sleeve, but that didn't bother me given I'm not ever going to need them. The trim actually does something though.

sounds like u got a bodgy return, i'd definitely be kicking up about it. not having some of those things in the box definitely shows it wasnt warehouse stock.
give em hell ;)

Well I'm pretty sure the one I bought was new in the box, or at least it was when I payed for it, not sure what happened in the time period between be paying for it and getting it installed. My guess is they pulled everything out, installed it with the bare minimums and threw the rest in a spares box or something. Regardless, I'm not impressed, everything that comes in the box should have been in it bar the stuff required to install it.
Given this was back in May, its more trouble than its worth arguing over the whole lot, but I think I'm entitled to the trim, since I payed for it right, even if its off the display one on the wall, doesn't bother me...I'm not that fussy :)

You'll find that most of the surrounds dont fit due to the shape of the magna dash if they use the stock mounting points over the sleeve.
I wouldnt necessarily say they did the dodgy, more they installed it, realised the surround wouldnt attach on without the aid of blutack or glue and turfed it after that.
It happens, wouldnt really expect strathy to uninstall it all and reinstall it with the sleeve.

Oh whoops 2nd gen... soz nfi... above post was for 3rd gens.
Err yeh id go back and ask for it.

Well its actually in a Corolla, with a completely flat dash, so that wouldn't have been the issue (although there is limited space around it)

Shouldn't they have put it back in the box  Stupid staff at Strathies lol

Well don't they just clip on the front? The Sony one in the TR did so I presumed it'd do the same? Ah well, guess it can't hurt to ask...
This is what it fits like atm:

Oh and with the TR install, whats exactly the problem with the trim fitting on them? Mine seems to fit fine...hasn't popped off or anything since I installed it Saturday:

Edit: lol Tim your getting confused now aren't you, I'm looking to buy a 3rd gen, I don't have one haha.....we're talking rolla world atm anywayz....since you mentioned that yann89 kindly mentioned his issue with the trim on his TR install....I don't get what the issue is with that? Mine seems fine, as you can see above.

i've got the Elite woodgrain trim in atm lugo, which means I have the large opening for the bigger more sophisticated elite stereo.
I had a problem with a fill-in DIN pocket and the stereo trim not fitting unless the install timing was matched perfectly. the result is a bowed bottom of the DIN pocket and contact between the trim and the pocket which inturn, makes the pocket load bearing (if it moves, the trim comes offlol)

Sorry on 3rd gens the dash has a slight curve where the h/u mounts, soz ignore it all. I get mixed up with who has what car.
Yeah I get ya Ian, Elite stereo was the one with the eq and everything wasn't it? You've got that for the woodgrain yeah?
No problem Tim, actually a handy thing to know, since sooner or later I'm gonna be looking at fitting one into a 3rd gen, thanks for the heads up :)
Now I've got that pick of the Pioneer up, does it look to any of you like their might actually be a slight lack of space around it for the trim? I was looking at it earlier tonight and it does to me look fine if the trim is roughly the same as the sony, but if its any wider I think I might have issues.

doesn't look like there's not much space at all rhys, probably why they didn't put it in there in the first place.

lol mine was a budget "one size fits all" size (which doesnt fit) so a bit of customising was in order. I will soon have to invest in a brand-specific DIN pocket, for now, it'll do :)

Or a double din HU? :P
I was gonna give Strathies a call, but I think it'd be more successful if I go in, should be able to do that tomorrow, I'll let you guys know how I go :)

Yeh you keep forgetting i own a ralliart :shifty:.
Lugo - Show us some pics of your corolla's headunit as is, and then we can see it for ourselves. Are you talking about the metal sleeve that goes around the headunit, or the plastic surround that goes around the face?

Same pic as I posted before, should give you an idea though. We're talking about the plastic surround that fits on the outside of the dash around the face :)
I don't even understand how that metal sleeve is supposed to work (don't really care either), hence why I didn't use it in the TR....we had enough crap to work out with the wiring that day, as you know :)
All I want is that nice neat finish its supposed to have.

From that pic it looks like it simply wont fit :(.
2 options:
1) You could get a hold of one and try to sand it down in places that doesn't fit
2) Pull your headunit out and try to mount it abit further forward (probably not possible if strathfield didn't do it).

Yeah maybe, but even if it didn't fit, they should have put it back in the box for me to deal with.
As for moving it forwards a bit, Strathfield wouldn't have done that because they just want to get the car in and out as quickly as possible, moving the Headunit around probably wasn't on their list of things do worry about, shows where my $70 went on that bit of the install aye...never again. We all learn from mistakes aye.
Ima see if I can get a trim from them for it anyway, I paid for it and it could come in handy if I install it in another car in the future. Fingers crossed.

Cheers bud, might do that, but first I'm gonna go see them tomorrow morning and see what comes of it...thanks for your offer though :D
Got ma trim, just went in, explained what happened to one of the guys, he went out the back and grabbed me one :D
Woo....
Bad news is, it doesn't fit, I need to slide my HU out about a half a cm to fit it, and I really can't be bothered atm, so I'll just put it aside for the next car it goes in, or when I can be bothered sliding it out.
