Hey all,

Whilst having a chat with [TUFFTR], I mentioned the Police Pack that my car was fitted with (Compliance plate shows option K20-Police Vehicle).

It also came up that both of us had NO CLUE what was included in this "Police Pack". Just wondering if anyone out there knows exactly what came in the poilce pack and if it's anything of importance.

Thanks,:)
-Ian

I think I already mentioned this to you a while back. Not 100% if it goes over the whole lot of police cars at the time, but the police back fitted to the commies and falcons was simply 15"
"Pursuit" steelies, slightly firmer suspension to keep the car more level cornering, a heavy duty clutch on the manuals (because they were tuned V8's, needed something to handle the V8's) and slightly larger brakes than per standard.

As said, not sure if those apply to the Magna's, but thats exactly what the police pack was on the commies and falcons.

Dunno why they'd change the cluster, seems like a waste haha....

The commies dad used to drive a VicRoads had the police pack, pretty sure what I listed was all that was added. Then they tuned the V8's up and away they went, separate magnetic tape speedo or some **** was fitted as well, which was dead accurate on speed.

BT1 (police pack) on the commos was

different speedo (2km increments instead of 5)
4 position headlight switch (off- dash lights only- parkers- headlights)
FE2 suspension (HSV and before that HDT spec)
the motors pre VL were slightly tuned (cop chip in VN onwards is a myth)
open console (no lid)
map lights
bigger alternator (increased elecs)
HD clutch (manual)
modified 2nd gear gate in the auto's so you can slam it back to 2nd
LSD
long range tank

i dunno what's on the magnas though
have never seen a magna cop car

my guess is go through that list and see what you have

Check to see if you have a big light-bar on your roof, it might get you through traffic :P

In the service manual there is a circuit diagram for the police 2-way and siren system, that's all I could find. Didn't look like anything exciting, basically a couple of switches and hooking into the front speakers.

ahhk...because my orig exec din pocket had holes cut into it (at the top). Also, my right rear quarter has a CB Hole cut out. i'm guessing that's all it was...+ 15' stockies.

What car?

This site tells you of commodore police pack options.

usually, long range tank, tuned speedo, stockies, etc

It's not really fair that they have tuned speedo's.. it's like we're set up to get done speeding when it's not our fault.. what are we supposed to do? as soon as you get the car buy a new speedo and get it dyno set? (that's what the cops have to do)

i think factory speedos are set to do one or two k's less than indicated, just for protections sake

i know speedo is 5km/h under (thats if the radar on the gateway toll is accurate)

according to the ADR's a speedo can be anything up to 10% out either way
the cops have their speedos re set every cpl months,

funny that the manufacturers get 10% but we as a consumers get 3%
