gooooood morning!
how are we all this wonderful friday morning?
yesturday arvo when came home from being out and about and whatnot, we parked the car where we always park it, locked it and left it until about half and hour ago (7.30am).
went out to the car, unlocked jumped in and started it ready to take the other half to work.
when i parked the car, the climate control was set at around 23degrees with the ac on.
thismorning when i got in the car, i turned the temp round to about 26 and turned the ac off - but left the fan speed at auto - as i always do.
in the time of starting and turning off the ac, the engine starts to make a rather loud high pitched whine - halfway similar to the sound of a thermo fan, but without the huge quantity of air movement sound.
when the sound started, i haddnt yet touch the climate control temp & a/c.
made my changes and the car was still making the noise and i guess you could say i realised that it didnt sound right, and said to the other half "is that me?" reply was yes, so popped the bonnet, but in the time it took him to actually find the release catch and open the bonnet the whinning sort of sound had stopped.
from start to finish - the sound lasted around about 1min i guess.
when we got the bonnet open but the sound had stopped, we shut the engine down.
we all know how cars turn off - the rada today was not like a normal car, it had a bit of 'run on' lasted 1 or 2 seconds.
during this run on time, the top end sounded very rattly/loose.
the most noise from run on seems to be coming from the rear bank - the bank of pistons/head at the side closest to the firewall - very little from the front bank.
The coolant system seemed to be instantly pressurised as well. in that 1min period when we first started the car and shut it down, started opening things to check fluids etc "just in case" and when we removed the radiator cap, the coolant was... "excited to see us". didnt explode or anything, it surged out - not a huge surge, but still.
The verada only has 55,xxxkm's on the clock, and has full service history as it was a former mitsu company car for the accountant.
the other half seems to think that the timing belt might have let go/be letting go on us? as far as the receipts go that came with the car, that hasnt been changed.
phoned mitsu service dept to see when i can get it into them - Tuesday 9th of OCTOBER, yes thats right 2WEEKS away.
the verada has never made any of these noises / had these symptoms before.
(if it was an old x series ford, itl have been fixed by now by me lol)
i use BP Premium - 95 Octane fuel in her, i refuse to run my car on an ethanol blended fuel - as i have seen a TR Maggy have a motor **** itself due to stupid E10 fuels.
the sump has the correct amount of oil in it too.
sidenote:
we started the rada after we shut it down - to see if the whine noise came back, but it didnt. the run-on feeling was there tho when we shut the car down.
not sure if its safe to drive the car - dont want to break it anymore than it allready is.
by the sounds of the phonecall, it should get covered under warrenty.
help?
ideas?
suggestions?
please!
cheers
