I think i may have a problem with my car. The "D" on the dash is not illuminating at all. Fuel consumption has increased. I have found good tech advise here before so i put it over to you guys before i approach MMAL.

the led has blown. open the cluster and replace it with 1 or 2. Or just leave it.

Will have nothing to do with fuel consumption.

my "D" light isn't illuminating either but fuel consumption is fine, it used to go off on me then i'd tap the dash a little and it came back on, but now i can try to tap it harder and nothing, i just put bad connection or maybe the light has blown.

As usual, Tim speaks the truth.:D

I haven't had a 'D' light in mine since buying it.*shrug*

to remove dash does it mean removing the speedo cable from the back. I am having trouble navigating through the tech threads to find the info to change the led. Are there codes that are used with the selector panel as i have had in the past with a subi.

someone did tell me just remove the 2 screws just infront of the cluster and it should come out easily, i removed the 2 screws and still couldn't get anything to move, so i gave up and put screws back, would like to know how to get it all out exactly so i could change the LED myself.

Boozer beat me to it.

I've got the Gregory's open here and it shows two screws for the cluster surround and two behind there for the cluster itself.

I might be changing the globe myself sometime soon.:D

That all sounds a bit complicated.

There should just be a few screws around the cluster that you undo and you should be able to pull it out - gently - and get behind it to change a globe, but I'm just guessing.:D

i tried that 2 screws and nothing else moved, i hope someone can tell me there are more screws to take out.

on TJII and above the leds are soldered onto the dash and arnt user replaceable. better get mitsu to warranty it.

i have now tried it. nah! because it would normally be expected to last the life of the car and that you say it's solderd in this has lead to my question of code sequence. I thought it to be as simple as the screws but alas not to be. this problem is on my TH.

Are you talking about when you shift into D it doesn't light up like P, R, N etc? If so, then, no it doesn't. The reason being is that Mitsubishi use that light to show you when the car is in limp mode. Thats not a good thing.

If it lit up before, and now it doesn't, I have no idea.

Is not too difficult at all. I did this the first time without any knowledge about the car.
Take your time to do it.

the car is pretty booked out on Wednesday, getting it tinted in the morning, going to change the LED in dash board cluster, perhaps might receive my K&N filter in the mail on that day just to finish it off, Rhino is coming over to help me change the engine mount (bolts have welded themselves tight). Then.... the car is off for 180 000km service on Friday... *sigh*

You lucky people who found it to be a blown globe. The link was fantastic but for me ZED was correct. Mine is booked in to be looked at. Now i wonder why in limp home mode i could do an excessive speed? If it was a blown globe, what caused it or just put it down to if it does it again keep changing it?

sometimes its just good to have an older car... :D all it cost me was $10.85 for the globe and nothing for travel coz i had a courtesy car from The Tint Professor....suckers....

if anyone is unsure of how to do it, just bring the car and globe to me and i'll do it on my days off work... the part number is MI-MB849560. i'm in deer park.

I am going out to the car in this thunder storm to check something. I feel like a bad chippy "measure twice, cut once". I was looking for a black colour and forgot to just test the globe. crap, crap, crap. Might need to make the trip down to Melb for thurs maccas night.

Ummm...it's the 'N' light that flashes when there's a problem.

Na it doesn't do that. I read that in the owner's manual 'Driving 6-11'

Hey, big thanks to boozer.

I rang Mitsu and checked they had stock then went after picking the kids up from school. They didn't know which one to give me! If I hadn't had the part number with me I'd probably still be there! Sorry it only cost me $9.55 lol

not wanting to be difficult, but in the owners handbook in the glovey of my KL, it says that the D flashes when there is a problem...
says 5flashes per second = overheating
and
2 flashes per second = limp home mode.

(i may have the number of flashes round the wrong way - but the handbook is in the glovey and the glovey is in the car... parked on the street... and i cbf going out to check it)

Wear a wig Boozer when you next go and get parts from the Mits dealer. I'm sure you are passable enough to get trade discount! lol

I think I've mentioned that it is on a TH which is in the same place as yours but in my car which doesn't have an illuminating "D" when driving.
