Well, it looks like its that time of the year.....
My missus and I have both been hearing a loud scraping noise when turning right on full lock. At frist I thought it might have been the brakes playing up, but it only seems to be coming from the front right hand tire. I tryed looking at the CV booths and they don't seem to be damaged or leaking but over the last few days the noise has gotten worse.
I guess what i want to know is:
1. How much do CV joints cost?
2. Anyone know anyone in S/E suburbs of melbourne that fit them for a good price?
3. or better still, how hard are they to install?
4. or EVEN better (or worse  ), could it be something else other than the CVs?

Check that nothing is touching the tyres at full lock dude.
Could be a guard that has come loose or something.

thought of that one two. nothing that i can see is rubbing, the sound is a more metalic rubbing (I should say "grinding") sound.

brake pads scraping maybe? could possibly be loose and they might be a little worn. just throwing it out there, probably not it.
CV's are usually a distinct "click click click click" when turning that increases in speed as you accelerate...

Checking the CV's are pretty easy to check actually, once you've been shown where you need to look.
If it's on the front tyres, simply turn them to full-lock and then look for the drive-shaft. Right behind where the brake/wheel hub is, there should be a rubber boot. If this is broken, congratulations you have a broken CV. If not, it could be something else, but I'd still get a mechanic to check out the CV's anyway.

Here's how I checked my CV joints.
1- Jack up front of the car and put it on strong reliable car stands. make sure the handbrake is engaged.
2- Remove wheel.
3- Turn on the ignition and put the car into drive. DO NOT RELEASE HAND BRAKE...lol sounds stupid, but force of habit, you know...
4- Listen for a clicking/ non-constant grinding noise (more like a buckled bicycle wheel rubbing on the brakes sort of grinding)...make sure the brake rotors are straight.
5- Then turn from side to side slowly and listen for clicking/ grinding (as described above).
If nothing is present like this, seeing as you've got the wheel off, just make sure nothing is scraping agains the moving parts.:)

I checked my CV joints by stickin my arm into my rim and seeing how much grease was all over my hand when i pulled it out!
If you think you need new cv boots/joints. It's a good idea to repllace the entire driveshafts. Its a bit more expensive, but it saves you busting another cv in the future coz of a worn driveshaft.
