it is more a case of shopping round to find the best deal. most places will do it cheaper in a package. i know that i bought mags seperately and they charged me about $15 a wheel more than if i had got tyres there too. but i was getting tyres at cost price so it still worked out cheaper. but you have more bargaining power if you are getting both tyres and mags at the one place.

Get a package, bob jane is pritty good with this as are other places.

Rims are not cheap so your looking at $1000 at least for a package and can skyrocket from there.

Second hand ones bought off here maybe cheaper..... and hope your insurance knows about it once installed, any modification not listed on your policy voids all insurance payouts.

I got my wheel and tyre package from Bob Jane. Got it on 12 months interest free. Paid it off within a year due to regular weekly payments. So if you dont have the full cash amount now you can still get your new wheels and tyres

Yeah you can get Rim/tyre pakages cheap but they really skimp on the tyre part of the deal.
I paid $1200 for my set and ended up getting dearer tyres fitted for free cause they couldn't balance the cheapo's up. Worked well for me, but i probably paid the difference going back 8 times.....

(And 1 of the rims was out of round from the factory)

After 12 months the clear coat is starting to peal off aswell, not 1 scuff nick or scratch, and still not warranty covered, So in the end i guess you get what you pay for. Although I would still prefer new rims for peice of mind.

They are Rodney Jane Racing rims so take this for what its worth.:D

I wouldnt say that. It MAY reduce the insurance payout, though to tell the truth, unless they can show that it may have had a detrimental effect of cause on the accident, I doubt they could even cut the payout.

As for the rim and tyre package, I agree with Trotty, the ones they advertise always use really **** quality tyres with brands that people have never heard off, as tyres can be more expensive than the rims for good quality low profile ones. Funny that when you just buy tyres they go on about getting good 'safe'tyres. The fact that they couldnt even get them to balance makes me shudder when I think about the quality of them.

I would save until you could afford both, then go and choose a nice rim that you like, not what they are promoting, and choose some tyres, even the better lower end budget tyres will be much better than the package tyres, and as you are getting a set you can bargain them down.

Make sure you ring around, when I was looking for some tyres on my dads Mazda6, that has 17 inch wheels, the tyres were over $300 each typically. Just keep ringing around and quote the cheapest price you have so far, and they will usually match it or beat it. Then say you are still looking around and give that price to the next. Knocked over $50 a tyre for my dads car. And make sure they quote you for fitting / balancing etc, and with some new low profile tyres, you should probably be bookin in for a good wheel alignment too.

i picked up a set of r34 skyline 17" rims for $400 with pretty much brand new tyres from a second hand shop in town. i only got them cause they were cheap and the 16's the car had when i got it looked crap.
