View Full Version : Wiring guides for TR AWA Stereo?

After we replaced the stereo in the TR, the old AWA stereo got thrown in the shed for a while. A friend of ours has connected his old stereo to a 12v power brick and now uses it as a shed stereo. So this got me thinking about doing the same to the old Magna stereo. So, the major issue i'm unsure of is which wire goes where.

I didn't make any notes from when the new one was put in the TR, so i'm wondering if anyone still has the wiring guides for it.

It's an AWA deck, part number AW325832 from a 1991 Magna TR.

What do you want to know? What colour wire is what? or what wires go into what parts of the harness?

I'm trying to put fronts into my TR tonight, so if I pull the dash out I'll make a note of what goes where for ya, but I can't make any promises, I don't think I'll need to pull it out.

Mostly on the back of the stereo, what wire goes to which pin.

I'd just give it a shot of trial and error, but i've already blown one fuse doing this so...:doubt:

I hate to break it to you, but if its from an exec with only the 2 front speakers, thats not gonna be how they wire up.....I just too the basic headunit out of my exec the other day and I know for sure thats not what the loom looked like, which is only a single plug, not double btw.

uhh oh lol

Did you read the question properly? :P

He wants to know what wire goes where, not what wire is what. I knew that guide was there, I used it to install my headunit lol That guide won't help him really.

If I pull my dash apart mate I promise I'll write down the places the wires go. Atm though, theres about a 5% chance I'll pull it apart :)

Ok, rigged it up by the schematics shown in the guide, positive to the 12v Ignition wire, negative coming from the earth point. The circuit completes which can be seen as when I connect the positive wire, a small spark jumps. The problem is that it still doesn't turn on.

Would speakers have to be connected for it to switch on? From what I hear sometimes they don't work without speakers attached.

EDIT: Just read up before... Lugo's right, it's from a TR Executive with only the 2 dash speakers. I've just ignored the second connector in this case.

might want to hook up ACC to something, that would most likely be needed to turn it on :)

An old thread, but it saved much frustration today. Sometimes it's the simple things that remind you of the value of these forums. Thanks.
