Well just brought my first Magna
6/2005 TW Magna Wagon, 46,000km, i paid about $17,000 for it after trade in. first registered 10/05 and used as a rental from thrifty in qld somewhere.

they threw in a free 45k service, 12 months rego. 2 new remotes, as they brought it from auction and it didnt come with it. full detailed in and out, and the 2 minor paint chips repaired.

it came with a tow bar, and looked very tidy, its an ES model but seems to have any feature you can poke a stick at.

now with it being a low k'd car from an ex rental place, is their anything you think i should do maintanance wise to it? ill be keeping it for a very long time i think?

my dad bought an ex rental in 2000, it was a 97 EL falcon with 168000km on the clock for about 13k at the time, still driving it today and its done over 320000km without serious issues, just the usual this and that that happens over time. i doubt you'd have too much issues with your buy. hope you treat it well and it should look after you very well.

well i figure, its got so low km, and if anybodys going to rent a car to hoon in, then they arnt going to go for a wagon.

first wagon ive brought, and its due to just having a baby, so figured why not.

had a line up of street machiens and sports cars in the past, but after the camry i figured id go a bit further for family cars.

of course towbar, for bike trailer :-)

I use mine (wagon) for the bikes too, when you go riding its great to just open the back up sit down have a beer in the esky that you have endless room for haha and get changed.

So practical, nice buy. Should be fine i would say, low kms, and its not the type of car hoons would rent. Good luck with it mate!

Looks great, should be a good car, our TR was a ex-rental car up in queensland before we bought it in 94 or early 95 (its a 93 model) and it had done about 45,000k's at the time, didn't have any mechanical issues and is still going well today.

They seem to take pretty good care of the cars from a servicing perspective, so it should be great!

yeah, she has a full service history anyway. front tyres are about 50% and rears about 80% so thats indicating a few things.

yeah, with a new born we found the getting teh pram in and out of a sedan a bit of a challange.

having the back as a seat didnt occure to me, but with wagon, fold flat seats, you got a lot of room to even sleep if ya wanted too :-)

how do they tow btw? ive got a 7 x 4 caged trailer, but i wouldnt be towing more than 500kg in it, although i did try 750kg of wood for about 500m in my 2.2l camry, she didnt like it though..

the car was rrp 19k at the car yard, wouldnt budge on the price, but i got 2000 bucks for a clapped out 94 camry with 260,000km on the clock, and they dont know it but the headgaskets leaking coolant and the trannys torque converter is telling me its time to retire :-)

and is it me or is stamp duty highway robbery?

hopefully we get to pick the car up on friday and i can see how she goes.

now ive gota work out does car get garage or does the bikes :-)

If you have the proper equipment, I think Magnas can tow up to 1500kg.

Looks tidy, good luck with it :)

i think i got an ok price for it, for a regional country dealership anyway. redbook seems to say its worth a lot less apparently..

I hate to disillusion you, but my guess is that the dealer bought the '05 wagon at Pickles or other auction for about $12K and sells it to you for $17K. He is not worried about your trade, as he will probably sell it to the wrecker for $1K. He still comes out in front.
That's not to say it is not a good car- however prices for used cars are so low now that most cars have lost 60% + of their value after 3 years.;)

Yeah, looking through online car sites, it appeared to be the average price for wagons, im guessing also that wagons are getting rarer, since they dont make mitsu wagons or toyota anymore.. but i always estimate an extra grand for a car yard, and an extra grand or two for regional, not a city.

and wheels, yeah, ive been looking on ebay, can get a set of factory 16" options for them for about 200 bucks.

Makes a much improved view of the car, not too mention some better handling when you get some quality tyres.

Yeah they love to value the trades high to get you to buy the new car at a higher price.

Yes Mad Biker a set of nice wheels will top it all off.
You will have no problems, as being first registered 10/05 you will be covered by the 5 year 130,000K factory warranty until October 2010. Just make sure its serviced regularly. An extra oil and filter change every 7,500K is good insurance.

well we got the financers call us about 4 and say its all done,

we went down to the car yard, only for them to give us a blank look and say they havnt heard anything. An hour of phone calls later, we finally get that sorted.

they still havnt washed it so started tow ash it while we did some paperwork,

then went to put the baby seat into it, only to work out the straps arnt long enough, by this time, all the shops are shut, so he tells us to take our old car home with the baby and the new one as well.

all seems pretty good, still gota work out how to use all these things like cruise control, and what a cd player does.

they did a terrible job of repairing the flaked paint on one of the door handles. I notice in the boot their is a tiny crack in the bottom of th eplastic, and the tyre leaver looks like it came out of a a gogo mobile, so glad i still have the old ones from the trade. of which i couldnt be stuffed taking the towbar off the old car, so left him that bit.

everything looks pretty good, he said he is replacing the roof bars end caps under warrantee as its got the typical buble paint on them.

so all in all, it all seems well

first drive, its goes pretty hard, the tranny is a bit sluggish, but its gota learn my driving style or something i think.

Ash tray is non existent in TL, cargo net is an option.

No other power sockets, just the one in the centre console

for some reason i recall another one we looked at, had an ashtray and a power socket with it. i think that was a 2004 model, get confused they look the same to me, colour and all..

i recon the cargo blind and cargo net would be handy things to have, hopefully findapart gives me a few clues for them.

wouldnt mind the underseat bucket, good to store some stuff i recon, although i found under the spare tyre bit, i managed to fit all most everything i could want, factory tools, jack, tyre, my bottle jack kit (with tools) x brace, screwdrivers, rags, tow straps, jumper cables, air compressor, tyre plug kit, a rain coat, a bit of wood for jacking up under soft dirt, and a picknick blanket. all fit snuggly :-)

oh and i looked through and found a little black tool kit under the tyre, which contained the origional unused tire iron and jack handle. so im happy, although i dont know what the dawn of time tire iron is their now.
