View Full Version : Cruise on Momo Wheel !!!

After fitting a good quality leather sports wheel to my old Ford Laser, it was by far the best money ever spent, couldnt believe how good it felt to drive, the thickness, the soft leather, the smaller diamter, quicker steering, the magic disappearance of steering slack, and the great looks. You put your hands on the wheel and you just itch to throw it round a corner.
So when I got my verada I was a bit disapointed with the huge step down to the standard cheap big thin plastic steering wheel. I thought it would be the first mod to do, but then I realised, my car has the cruise control stalk coming out the side of the steering wheel. (96 TS Rada) I really dont want to lose the cruise control, what could I do to keep the cruise on a momo wheel??????
Did some magnas have the cruise control stalk on the steering column?, if so would it be possible to fit this to my car??? Im desperate for ideas, if anyone has done something similar or has any ideas at all please help me.
Cheers,
Ollie

Second gen magna/verada had the controller on the wheel... No exceptions I believe.
Your 'rada is a KS too...

Best you could probably do is find a third party cruise control switch that you can mount custom to the column, then modify the wiring to be compatible with the existing system. I have seen cruise control columns sold separately at places like Autobarn, so I know they exist.

I suppose that would be a possiblity, however that would invovle extra cost too, unless I could just source the stalk by itself. Anyone know if any model magna ever came with an extra stalk that goes from the steering column rather than buttons on the wheel or a little wand in the steering wheel???

I got a Momo wheel on my Verada and used the stalk type cruise control , modified so it mounts on to the hub (boss Kit). There's abit of work to make it fit.The airbag steering wheel and later model late 95 TS with the Nimbus steering wheel (4 spoke) had the stalk type cruise control.
You can see the switch on the lower R/H side of the wheel (middle spoke).

Hey thanks heaps for you reply man, soooo happy to see someone who has done it and make it work. Reckon you could post some pics or a bit more explanation on how you did it? do you like the look of it and the way it works? By the way mine is the 4 spoke steering wheel with the little stalk on the side, but it has no airbag.

Another option might be to get a 3rd gen Leather steering wheel with the cruise control stalk and rewire it to the 2nd gen setup? Surely would be possible, and I know that the 3rd gen wheel bolts in alright.

I will try to take some more photos of how it's mounted on to the hub.
I used the stalk that's the same one that you got on your wheel. There 2 type of steering wheels like I mention in the last post the air bag 1 and the Nimbus which is the one you got on your Verada.Have you got your Momo wheel and boss kit yet?.The boss kit for a 2nd gen Magnas are a bit hard to come by and are not cheap.I used a Autotecnica kit that's for 94 Lancer, it fits no problem at all which I got of Ebay new in the box for $40, other wise I would of spend about $100 and for a Momo hub I wouldn't even go there how much they cost.
I had the Momo steering on my NH Pajero for while.
