Hey just wondered if anyone knows of a brand etc of reversing sensors that theyd recommend? in repairing the damage to my car, the bumper will need to be replaced, and new one resprayed, so i'm thinking i'll get the sensors done then, and should be a cheap install, as well as being professionally done.
so any suggestions, or just go for whatever from ebay?
and i wont be going the ultrasonic ones, as i dont reckon they'll work the best with the KJ bumper ;)

Most reversing sensors are the same, just the look of them varies. Just make sure the ones you get have good connections going from the sensors to the control unit. Also, they all work on ultrasonic principles as far as I know.

yeah sorry meant the ones that dont require drilling, uses like an RF loop behind the bumper

I've heard those ones can be dodgey.

These seem to go OK.

They don't have a big range and only work if car is in motion as it detects stuff that cut
across its magnetic field.

lol ppl didnt understand me, i meant theyre the ones i dont want, was just clarifying it for Mohits comment before :P
yeah i want the drill ones, coz they work better, and i dont think the RF loop ones will work behind the KJ bumpers (too much stuff behind them)
So drilling ones only :P

Sozz bout that. I bought mine from ebay fairly cheaply and got a dealer to paint and fit it
in. Works great. I fitted the control unit and wiring myself and the control unit is in the
boot so that I can disconnect it when reversing with a trailer.

To try n help you out, the PD dept at work will no longer use COMMAND brand sensors as they claim they are a POS. We now only use genuine holden sensors for after factory options/accessories in sensors. Not saying go n buy holden ones, but tryna say alot of people at work dislike the "command" brand ones.
Hope this helps

Nah they're not 100% necessary, but gosh, do they make life a hell of alot easier. Eg- just this afternoon was trying to squeeze into a tight spot at chadstone shops in the calais. there are four sensors on the from and four on the back. the front ones rock because as you're turning in, it gives you a point at which you know that if you move like, 5 more cms, you'll hit the other car. it takes the guess work out of parking. they're excellent for parallel parking aswell, for obvious reasons.

for anyone who says reversing sensors arent needed, sure sometimes theyre not, but u try parking a KJ, with the extended bumpers... its all just to make life that lil bit easier, and either way i'll look.
but thanx to those suggesting stuff, and telling me brands to avoid :)
at the mo i'm probably gonna go the ebay ones from Brash's imports... decent company, unit looks good, and $50 inc postage. also i dont want/need a lcd display of any sort, just want the buzzer :)

How dare you squeeze that Calais into a tight parkign spot, your putting it more risk of being door dinged or scratched

i think they are all pretty much the same as far as ebay ones go..
they are all just the 4 sensors and the beeper that plug into a unit which is powered by your reverse lights..
best ones are pug 407's though, if something is moving behind the car from side to side, because the beeps come out of the rear speakers, the beeps follow the object..
good idea having them on the front of the car tho..

hehe the pug ones would be cool ringa, but methinks those dealerships would charge alot more than $50 ;)
the idea of front and back is interesting, but i can see the front (and front bumper aint coming off :P ), but also heard some of them only engage when in reverse, which is kinda silly!

haha yeah, add another 0 and double the price and you might be somewhere close..

well the rear ones engage in reverse because they are 'turned on' when your reverse lights illuminate..
the fronts however, i suppose they would be on all the time?? or you could just put a switch in them and stick it on the dash somewhere?

Rear ones turn on when in reverse as they get power from the reversing light. The front
ones, from memory (reading BMW brouchers etc) only turn on if speed is below 25km/hr.
Also, mine makes three different sounds depending on wether an object is directly behind
or to either side.
I also got mind from brash imports.

A switch would be the best way to go for front parking sensors. My dad's Toyota Aurion Presara has front and rear parking sensors which can be turned on/off via a dash mounted switch.
