Lol. Anybody had a loose dipstick in their Magna/Verada? I took my 95 KS Verada out on a "Spirited" drive tonight and have an over whelming smell of oil as i approached home.. only to find the dipstick halfway up so oil could spray out over the engine bay. Think I need a new dipstick or, at least, gaffa tape it into place! lol

Not sealing?
Maybe try get a hold of a second hand one, or buy it from mitsu spare parts, not sure if auto shops sell these, maybe cheap then mitsu.

Or perhaps your PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) Valve is blocked, causing buildup of pressure and popping the dipstick out????
Just a guess.
EDIT: Also, WTF? Who is online at 3am??? lol

yeah i'd also say check your PCV valve.
or it could be a sign of a more serious problem. i know people who have had problems with the pressure building up too much and it ususally ends with an empty wallet

My dipstick used to half fall out constantly too... initially i thought it was just coz the rubber was worn out so I replaced it with a better one from wreckers... it still fell out. I replaced the PCV valve and cleaned out all the lines, but still the dipstick came out and was spraying oil all over the extractors and making smoke and heaps of oil fumes...
Couple months later I found out the engine was completely stuffed due to a faulty thermostat it had the whole life before I got it - it wore out the bores like crazy to the point where you could physically make the pistons wobble around in the cylinders. I'm not saying this is the same problem you have, but if the rubber on the dipstick is good, there is excess pressure in the crank case. Check all the blowby lines and valves and make sure they're all clear and there's no damage to the hoses.

this happens heaps!
even more so to auto transmissions!
my merc has a locking mechanisim on the dip stick so it dosent come out, my valiant on the otherhand would shoot it out untill it hit the bonnet (3-4") lol
nothing to worry about

This could fearfully be true, i'm hoping not. The dipstick has always been a loose fit, just never come out b4. To be perfectly honest I was driving the car way too hard to do any good, to the fact the temp gauge started rising.. I cleaned the engine bay today and topped the oil up and nursed it around town, havent had any problems since but fingers crossed I didn't do any damage.
