as a rule sony in my opinion is a good brand except for their car audio and blaupunkt come standard in commodores which is nice for stock but aftermarket blows

Ive been quoted between $630-$640 for JBL 6x9, 12" sub with a ported box and 4 channel amp including install cost for the Blaupunkt and $625-$630 for the same set up only in Sony installed.

Out of the two I'd probably go Blauplunk, as Sony's audio products have never been crash-hot.

Are they the only two brands you can choose from though? I'm guessing you're on a budget. If so, Pioneer make a cheap 12" sub (TSC-306 or something) that is supposed to be good value for money.

Hmmm:
Jaycar 4x100WRMS amp $299
DD 512 Sub $199
Box $50
Hertz ESK 165 / Boston S60's $250-$300

Much better system for around the same amount of $$$.

If you already have good front speakers then sub the above for the equiv 6x9 2ways.

Provide model numbers and or specs on both the blaupunkt and sony gear, IMO if you're going for either ones entry level stuff, i wouldn't bother. As said above you can custom build it to be much cheaper and sound 10 times better.

Well I just spent all of $210 putting a Sony system into our TR, and it actually works pretty good. So a high end Sony system would probably work alright.

That said, the Astra we had for a while came standard with a 8 Speaker Blauplunk stereo, and it was really something special for a stock stereo. Really cranked, and sounded REALLY REALLY GOOD! But then we are talking about splits front and back, so its bound to sound alright.

Go Blauplunk, if not for anything else, you stereo sounds like its better when you talk about it with that brand backing it lol

watch me get killed for my next statement-

KENWOOD FTWlol:D

nah but seriously, if you want a serious stereo, go alpine or clarion, not much that can beat them. they're not as prettifoolz as other brands, but they whoop ass on sound quality.

We all know you love Kenwood Ian, I mean, you make it obvious with the Kenwood banner on your back window!

i "downgraded" from a kenwood 50x4 watt 3 preout head unit to a 45x4 watt single preout alpine cos it was free and i can plug my head unit in and it sounds alot better

alpine is teh ghey!

only good things alpine make are amps and head units.

For budget systems definately go jaycar amps!

then try either jaycar splits or hertz (depending on what you can afford)

for a cheapish sub go second hand from somewhere like cau audio australia. I got my brand new (guy fitted it and it didnt fit properly) $800 rockford sub for $400 :)

Yep. Got one in my magna. Deep and loud. Also cheap as all hell. I've only got one sub in the back but you'd swear there was two.

Absolutely 100% agreed. Damn it pounded hard. Now I've got a kenwood amp which I'm not as impressed with.
Response is good for the price and gives out lots of power.

Feel sorry for the bull :bowrofl:

I have a lot of people ask me what to get after they buy there system. The problem is that they go out to strathfield and JB, buy Sony etc and aren't happy. I wont suggest anything that I know people get constantly disappointed with. Always believe do it right, do it the first time...

yep my first "system" was pioneer and US Audio from ricebarn and cost a measly 1600 installed and i was looking to upgrade speakers etc within 3 months
US Audio splits (no crossover so to speak more an in line resister between the 6" and the tweeter) imo sounded better then the pioneer 3 ways i had originally

the one thing i learned about that experience was that ricebarn, crapfield and JB stock and push crap

on a side note those 3 ways are the only part of that system i have left
