hi. was wondering what the next engine mod for my ts v6 should be.
its already got k&n panel, port and polished heads, extractors, 2.5" cat back, twin tip cannon.
i was thinkin cams and then save and get a supercharger and standalone emanagement.

if your going to get cams, you will need atleast a piggy back system.

How do you feel the cars performing with the mods you have already done, noticeably better? just wandering coz im hoping to do a few of those mods in the future.

DOHC Conversion - No questions asked.
The SOHC just cant compete, With the money you will be throwing at this car the DOHC will just poo on it in every way.
Cams, well you may need new valve springs and then something else might pop up - $1500+ for a few kw's???

Stand alone ECU - $1500+ for a few more kw's?
Thats $3000 already. (In theory ok....)
Yeah i know you've done a bit of work to the engine already but i would do some research before you spend more hard earned $$ on it.

DOHC requires complete engine swap, heads have different oil and water galleries and therefore won't work properly. ECU needs to be replaced with a US Diamante/3000GT ECU or third party standalone. Extractors won't fit as exhaust ports have a different shape.

Depends
Can be done from anywhere as low as $3K and just goes up.

Hello,

Before considering cams, you should firstly decide which path you wish to travel (super, turbo, N/A) and stick to it. The reason being, to get the maximum benefits from installing cams, the cams themselves have to be designed for the specific setup. Also alot of factors come into play when designing cams such as compression ratios, boost levels etc. I'm no genius when it comes to cam design, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe that cams rely alot on the setup they are applied too.

dohc = 120-130kwatw... with your average mods...

you could prolly get about the same to 140kwatws with cams in your sohc... but yeah theyd need porting to flow very well at all... 12v is gay...

at the end of the day its a magna but yeah if you really like it and are willing to spend some large cash; get a standalone computer... not a piggy back and pull the heads off or buy a DOHC or TT.

Im thinking about some camshafts upgrades now.

im going to stay with the sohc engine as ive reconditioned it only 2 months ago. what i want from the car is about 180-200kw atw so i can flog a standed commo or falcon at lights.
i hate them lol theyl think wtf its a magna.

thats an unrealistic value for the sohc without major work... well over 10k$ to get that out of one.

140kwatw would acheive the same feat...

lol.
Can be done, but wont be reliable.
If you want 180 RELIABLE Kw's You'll need a full engine rebiuld. I wouldnt trust the SOHC with more then 160Kw going to the wheels. So forged pistons etc.

I really do hope you succeed in doing this but for the money your going to spend....eh...dimi108 knows what im talking about ere'

i reconditioned the engine 2 months ago and now i wish i had bored it out to a 3.5 and got forged pistons for it.

Just turbo it.
$5-6K and should have some more power.

Should also look into some American Stealth/3000GT car clubs as they too use the SOHC 12v 6G72 and they have done some pretty serious work to these engines

Ehh... How long is a piece of string...?

Each have their advantages and disadvantages, with a supercharger you're going to have not much chance of getting all the bits you need... Speak with Dimi, he had a Eaton M90 fitted to his 6G72.

From what I recall, there are no active members who have turbocharged the 6G72 engine, so that would be interesting to see.

You're better off going the DOHC 6G72 swap like everyone else, NA, but you'll still need custom extractors.

Prepare to spend big, chief.

So your saying the V6 3.0L 6G72 come in DOHC? Can they be fitted in a third gen magna?

The one we're talking about is from a Mistubishi 3000GT/GTO/Stealth, and no they dont fit in the 3rd gens.
Not to cluey on the 3rd gen side of things but 2nd gen motors are the other way around

Negative, the motor is orientated differently. Third gen 6G72 SOHC has 24 valves, second gen 6G72 SOHC has 12 valves... So i'd imagine different oil galleries, as the second gen 6G72 DOHC has different oil galleries to its SOHC counterpart. Many differences between all three engines.

If you're looking at an engine swap for your 6G72 third gen, upgrade to the 3.5L 6G74.
