I'm lookin' for pointers here. I gots me a manual, however all you auto owners post up! This is assuming a standing start, wif teh air-cond off :D

1) Left foot on brake.
2) Shift into N.
3) Rev it, draw attention.
4) Back into D.
5) Rev to 2500rpm, left foot still on brake.
6) Wait for green, then floor it.
7) Watch other vehicle pull out in front.
The 2500rpm gives it a little extra kick, but a 2.6L auto is hopeless all round.

LoL
b 4 i start, here is a "pre-drag" tip
talkgate the *** outta some1 with highbeams on (flashing is recommended), change lanes b 4 lights
n e way..
Mods: lowed 2" all round, 2.5" exhaust at the end, 1 permanant passenger
Opponent type: suzuki swift (dunno if it was the gti or not)
Win/Almost win?: depends wot u think
off at the lights
1) pop in N. rev car a few times
2) pop in 1st. rev car to 3000, maintain revs
3) when lights go green, pop the clutch and floor ur car, leave approx .5 of a sec inbetween clutch out and pedal step
he rapped me off start up, but once i was in 2nd about 5000rom (didn't know speend), we were neck and neck
then i just slowed down
he had mags and exhaust. and a few boxes

It'd have to be a GTi, anything can kill a standard swift
ooh i have another one, but not magna specific
Car: '88 Hyundai Excel :)
Mods: Smashed back window, spraypainted black grill
Opponent: Oldskool Honda Civic (the oldest ones that people try and rice up)
His Mods: Rims, 4" Exhaust Tip, Mugen Sticker
Win: Yeah baby.
Pulled up at lights with a form 1 lane and three roundabouts following close after, he looked at me in my Excel (first car, driving round cos magna is bust), he did that whole clutch rock thing, so I creeped up to line him up. Lights hit green, good launch with no spin, could still see him at my side, maxed out 1st and 2nd and shifted like mad, reach form 1 lane and see him behind me hahah! dropped speed so he started tailgating, so I took the roundabouts like crazy and left him for dead again! I love that little excel, I wish my magna was a manual...

In my car I tend to just sit there and spin if I dump the clutch at anything above 2500, so I usually get it to roll a little and then floor it and it works well, though I know it's not the best way to launch.

Car - TS v6 manual.
Mods - Cold air, Tyres - 215/60/15 (inflated to 34psi), premium fuel, pedders suspension (not lowered).
Cars - various, stock Ford AU's & BA XT's (Autos), Commodores (Autos), Magna Sports/VRX (Auto).
Results - Beat Fords & Commodores. No match for Magna sports.
Tactics - don't dump the clutch (too much wheelspin). Floor from 20km/h. 1st to 2nd circa 40klm (just after 6,000rpm). 2nd-3rd circa 90km/h (around 6,000rpm). 3rd to 4th 140km/h (circa 5,200rpm)
Don't over-rev the car - it's just faster changing up.

Here's one...
Car: Magna wagon 2.6l auto (No passengers)
Mods: None (standard unleaded fuel, I was poor back then)
Transmission type: auto
Opponent type: Mates '94 Celica ZX manual w/huge exhaust (which drops c. 5kw of engine power) & 1 passenger
Win/Almost win?: On par, the Celica won but just. Oh and we had to slow down for the traffic lights coming ahead.
Procedure:
1) Leave box in drive. Turn POWER on.
2) Hold brake with left foot and rev the engine to about 1300rpm before take off.
3) Push down on the accelerator to about 4/5 of the way in rapid motion, but dont floor it, it seems to rev up slightly faster if you do this (?). Oh and let go of the brake.
4) As your engine speed reaches around 5000rpm, let go of the accelerator then instantly pump it again. What this does is let the gearbox change gear as you let your foot off, but as it changes gear give it some engine speed before it engages the next gear. It feels like you are double clutching, hehe.
5) Repeat the last step.
Opponent type: VH commy auto("dickhead" does not count.)(y not he was a commy driver?)
Hmm, does that mean im a dickhead too??? I drive a Commy occasionally...

do you act like a dick in it?
do you try and race everyone in it?
do you think your car can beat ferrari's, fly and travel through time?
do you believe that standard auto commodores are gods gift to the car world?
Didnt think so!
answer: no, your not a dickhead.

yeh hes done his car up a fair bit tho i should mention that hes weighed his car down a fair bit as well with car audio equipment. but yeh it was a sweet drag. cars matched very evenly.
Mods: PULP :S
Transmission type: Manual
Opponent type: Everyone i come across :)
Win/Almost win?: Most people are not even interested, so i always "win"
I never get crazy revs onboard, wheels just light up and u waste the launch. I crank through 1st till 3500, then into second till i reach 60 :P
There is no point speeding in order to win a drag, my car isnt "hot" enough to show off hahha
Mods: Mad go-faster Stickers
Transmission type: Auto
Opponent type: 4wd of 2 dickheads. I think it was stolen, they looked about 16, with no P-plates
Win/Almost win?: Creamed them. It was wet, so it was ok beating a 4wd. mmm... traction.
Launch strateegy:
well, on the above occaision i just left it in D, and slowly aplied the accelerator.
when it's dry, It's [L] with the power putton on, stall it up to 2K with the brakes on, then let go of the brake. I don't push the accelerator any more, until it's going, otherwise you just get wheelspin.
Opponent type: suzuki swift (dunno if it was the gti or not)
Black, with 2 passengers, on the highway?
