Hi All, I have a TR which keeps losing its water somewhere. There is no water in the oil, no leaks, it just disapears. I am thinking that it must be going out the exhuats??
Anyone else have this problem, if so did it cost much to fix?
I was think of getting an exchange head and paying someone to fit it.
What are your thoughs on the cheapist way around this problem?

I wouldn't think thats where the problem is, unless your exhaust smoke is white.

No there doesn't seem to be any color in the exhuast at all, The inside of the pipes is a little damp and slimy however

best advice would be to take it to a mechanic then see what they think, then take it to another and see what they think.

change your radiator cap first. could be leaking out there

Thanks everyone, It does have a new cap and there isn't any signs of water anywhere overflowing.
What would cause the water to turn a rust color when the coolant gets low?

Is the carpet damp under the inside footwells anywhere? Does it smell funky in the cabin?Could be the heater core. I went through one in the Camry a few years ago and have just had the one in the Magna done. Aren't I lucky?:doubt:

What sort of condition is the water pump in? It gave me no end of grief on my KR V6...

I bought it 4 months ago, At the time I replaced all hoses, Water pump, housings etc, radiator had the tanks replaced and flushed out. I once said I would never own a magna, But this one was a one owner and I was actualy there when the person picked it up from the car yard new. I have now really come to love it. Just this water mystery is really ticking me off as I don't want to have to get the head fixed.
The carpet is dry and no bad smells. I think I will have to take it in for a proper check.

I think I remember somebody else on the forum here mentioning a similar issue recently... Maybe check the water pump seals and look for any coolant or leaks around the engine bay. You might find once the car heats up there is a small leak somewhere.

I have had same problem, havent fully resolved it yet, but I found 2 split hoses and the pipe that connects to the heater hoses behind the engine is corroded and breaking apart. I eliminated the head gasket failure threat when i finally found my leak.
Check under the oil filler cap and see if there's any milky fluid in it?

Nope no leaking hoses or water under the oil cap, They are all new hoses etc. Still a mystery

I think you should get a cooling sytem pressure check... that will find the problem.!:D
