My last car was a '72 HQ 20yrs ago :D

Maggie's now due for her 200k service, TS 2.6 (Wagon) & Mitsi wants (starting) $700
I've no problem doing the oil change, timing etc, my question is (with all this pollution ****e, computers etc)...

Which Oil, plugs, leads etc & what else to I need to check/change please

The main thing there would probably be timing chain. 200K is usually the swap point for chains (cyl) or belts (6cyl).
If you can do that yourself, tell them that the chain has been done, and see what price they then say.

Simple.

Ring around and ask other places prices, mitsubishi charge alot for labour and on parts.

I know the whole
"its a magna, they are the only ones who know how to service it etc" but that is not the case, theres thousands of these cars and most places can do it.

Get some quotes, at some other private mechanics.

I use to take it to mitsubishi, lost alot of money because I didnt think, now have a private mechanic and have saved hundreds.

hmmm, chain was done at 150k, you sure it would need doing again now?

No, it's just the usual time for replacement. If it was done 50K ago, it should be good.

Don't know chains as such, with belts it's every 200K; replacing the chain every 100K rings a vague bell?

There-in lies the problem, I'm limited to the amount of mechanics available round me - the price of living in rural. Just after buying Maggie, I took it to a (local) mechanic for a simple tune-up, ran like a dog 2 days later, he tried to tell me it was dirty fuel, tried a few other mechanics & got everything from new plugs to injectors to fuel filter & no solution, bit the bullet & took it to mitsi to be told that honey-comb thingy in the Air Flow Sensor had been removed, renewed & problem solved. I couldn't prove it, but I figured it was the original mechanic doing the tune-up...& he called himself a Performance mechanic ROFLMFAO
Sorry mate, that's my long-winded way of saying I'm limited in choices *LOL*

Anyways, back to my original question :)

No worries, makes sense. The list magnabuff provided is what needs to be done/checked.

Might be worth see'ing what mitsubishi actually quoted you on first, the amount might be less if your chain dosent need to be done as stated above by Rogue.

Slightly OT but didn't want to start a new thread.

How long do services usually take, including a transmission flush? 1 day? 2 days? more?

It's for 170K kms

Should be done within a few hours. The more there is the longer it takes.

If its just a general service would only be a few hours max. If its timing chain or something else big might be the whole day or even overnight.
