Hi

Just purchased a Magna and decided to join the group.

I've been searching the threads with regards to muffler replacement on Magna's and found that there may have been noise issues with the AWD models. Does anyone here have the Lukey on an AWD? Too noisy? How does it go? I'm no speed freak but if I get a bit of extra efficiency for not much cash then that's great.

Also according to what I've heard, the AWD engine has slightly less output due to the exhaust having to negotiate the rear axle etc, looking under mine (TW LS) it looks pretty straight.:)

Less power is due to something near the headers and the awd drivetrain near the engine, not at the rear axle.

That's why the awd's drone, because that pipe is so straight. Apparently the straight through muffler from mitsubishi designed for the awd gives decent flow with no drone and a nice enough note. Some guy with an awd went through all this recently and it was the best solution.

If you have dual tips you have the super gay stock muffler - by all means go ahead and replace it, if you have a single exhaust tip it's already a straight through muffler and the lukey will just be a louder replacement for your existing one.

The restrictive part of the AWD exhaust is where the rear manifold connects to the flex pipe. It sort of doubles back on it self. The Mits engineers told me to just replace the join, but I ended up getting a HM header setup which improved fuel economy on my ride. Just replace the rear muffler for a better sound if thats what you want. Thats what I am in the process of doing. Just got to find the right sounding muffler. :D

when i first got my magna, (3.0 5spd) a had a redback put on. Nice growl when you got up it, but not too droney when you were cruising. Not too dear either.

Yeah I read that someone had problems with a Redback system, the Mitsi muffler looks pricey compared to the lukey. I was told the Lukey is a copy of the factory sports muffler.

And yes I have the "gay" muffler.lol

A lot of people remove the sports muffler when doing exhaust upgrades, you'll probably be able to pick one up here in the for sale section pretty cheap.

It's there so the rear headers are the same length as the front headers, tuned length

How much did you pay for yours?

As far as I know, my TL VRX AWD came with the factory sports muffler. It drones. I replaced the headers with HM units, it still drones. So I would be cautious about trying to use the factory sports muffler to reduce drone.

I had a Lukey LR2779 and it was good. Not a lot of drone but Barry's fuel rail kit helped.
