As some might know I had a manual conversion done on my 99 TH 3.5.
Well my clutch has carked itself and I have been ringing around for prices on getting a new one fitted. Problem is, is that some places have told me that it might be a 'pull' type clutch, or it might be a 'push' type clutch. There seems to be a big price difference between the two types.
I need to know if there is a way of finding out what gearbox has been put into my car. Is it a 3.0l one or a 3.5l one? If it has come out of a TH or another model. Is there a code on the casing or some way of identifying which one I have so then I can tell the guys which one I need to save some time?

all magnas have the same type. And i think theyre all push?? theyre the uncommon one. Also i rkn the 3L clutch would fit the 3.5L anyway

im only going by what shops have been telling me. now the clutch alone for a TH 3.5 is anywhere between $700-$1000 +fitting. Some places have been telling me that the clutch design changed between models, which makes it hard for me to tell them EXACTLY which one I have because I don't know which one was fitted to my car.

TJs have pull. or alteast mine does..:)
Im sure all 3rd gens have pull type. Problem is there are so many differant clutchs for these. Most of the time you need to measure the sizeof the one in there to get one to match. if you put the wrong clutch in u will kill it in a few months..
Just in the TJ range there are 4 differant clutchs in the manuals.. Mits have it all but most aftermarket places list one clutch or dont have any listed for magna..
Other thing you can do is get the number off the gearbox and chat to Mits and they can tell you what the Gearbox came out of..:)

4!? WTF are Mits doing!!!
So is there anyway of telling which clutch would be fitted by looking at the casing?

Yes and No. For mits to give you you need the the VIN number. if you give them the box number they might be able to get it.
Only other way is pull the box out and measure the clutch plate diametre. Mine was on the change over and thats what we had to do to get an exedy clutch.

just spoke to one place, and I had told him whats happend to the car. He will take the car and more than likely be able to identify what gear box has been used. He will pretty much do everything 'The EGO' said he did by measuring everything up to get the right match.
man what a bloody headache!

if its not an old clutch, and your pressure plate isnt worn out, just replace the clutch plate. Thats the wearing part after all. Should only be coupla hunj.
