I have a 96 TE sedan and the boot has got annoying dents in it. So I thought why not just replace the boot with a newer model (I think 98+) so that I can throw those cool altezza tail lights on. Is this possible? Are the brackets/supports connecting to the same places and does the boot itself fit with the body kit? Also, do those altezza tail lights have the same base design as the TE tail lights so they fit into the tail light position on the TE?

Been wondering about this for a long time. Particularly interested in the altezza tail light shape and if its compatible with the TE tail light positioning area.

Retrofitting the TH/TJ/TL/TW bootlid onto your car is possible, tail lights can be done too. Easy :)

much better to source a KJ bootlid and lights, as oppose to the rice lights. only rear lights i like (besides stock), are KJ's retrofitted, or tinted. no magna/verada (and i mean it) looks good with altezzas

Well thats a relief, I've always wanted to change the bootlid style on the old TE. And yes KJ Verada lights are pimping. They have that sexy full red style with chrome detail around the edging.

Also about the altezza's, sorry guys but I'm a ricer. :shifty: I'm here to rid the discrimination against us in this forum! :P

Well looks like I'm heading to a magna/verada graveyard to steal some organs. Has anyone got an idea of the pricing for boots?

About those lights mate you can buy them from an auto store, i went to auto1 and bought it off the counter, just go to them and ask if they have them, usually dont sell them on the shelf. Anyways i like them.

Yeah, I've done abit of searching for them, but have recently spotted the KJ Verada style tail lights which mitsubishi have done a great job designing. So looks like I'm saying no to altezza and yes to verada.

Just remember that putting KJ verada lights on a Magna will require ****ing around with the wiring as the KJ lights dont have reverse lights in them.

Nope its the blinker.

The Veradas have the reverse lights mounted on the bootlid itself.

Some members (Ego) modify the KJ lights to have the blinker stay on permanently whilst reversing. Same difference I guess, unsure of the legalities though.

whatever you do, get a boot lid and matching taillights from a wrecker, including the boot-lid wiring loom, as MUCH of it can be slightly different, making simple things an absolute pain. easiest to do on a TE-TH is the KE-KH verada like i did, going to a TJ-onwards will require new bootlocks if you intend on using your key to open it, unless you go TL/TW, which wont have bootlocks, but will require a new rear bumper!

Honestly putting the KJ lid on my KE wasnt too hard.

Yes, the lock was different, $20 from wreckers and $30 to get it re-keyed.

The Wiring loom from the KE was retained, the only difference was the plugs for the reverse lights and number plate lights. If you get used ones from a wrecker get the plugs aswell, then its just a matter of joining green wire from plug to green wire on loom, black wire on plug to black on loom etc. Going from E/F/H series to J series youll also need new number plate lights as these were changed aswell.

Going from Magna to Verada bootlids - youll need the loom, but I dare say the plug in the boot for the loom wont have reverse lights in it anyway as the wires run to the tail lights on the Magnas so there would be no point having them in the bootlid plug would there?

yeah the plug is the same in the boot, just has a couple of extra wires for the reverse lights, i was cheering when i found out i didn't have to change that!!
