Hey everyone,
Im trying to install a nice gadget into my car which I will post about with pics and stuff later, but now I need to connect it to power, but I only want it on when the ignition/car is on. I looked at the ignition barrel and there are at least thick wires coming out of there, all different colours. Anyone know which wire or the easiest place to get an ignition power source in the 2nd gens????
Please help, want to get this finished today!
Cheers,
Ollie

easiest place would be to get it at the back of the head unit, thats where i've got my central locking and neons from.

Thanks Perry, I thought of that, but looking at the head unit it would seem rather hard to get to??? Whats the best way to getting access to the wires at the back of the head unit?
Cheers,
Ollie

Ok that the center console and radio surround out
2 screws located at the back on the console and 2 where the ash tray is.
Take your gear nob off
Lift that out
Ok now you should see 2 screws, take them out and pull the radio surround out and disconnect the wires at the back of it.
Take the 4 screws out of the Radio Mountains and lift the radio out.
Do you have an aftermarket stereo??
Edit: going by you signature you do and look for the red wire and that’s your accessories
I'd roll with Perry's idea, its the best one in a second gen from my knowledge.
As to how to access the wires, use this guide: http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32646
Just stop when you get to the bit where you change the headunit lol
Edit: Oh and handy hint, you can just slide back the centre console to give you acess to the front panel around the headunit, but I found it much easier to disconnect the loom to the green led in the ash tray and remove it entirely, not sure if that guide mentions that.

Why do you have your central locking running off ignition (accessory?) power?

He smashes the window to his own car. Puts the key in, turns it to ACC, then puts all the doors up from the inside.

Hahahaha nah I think he means that he just connected it to the wires behind the head unit, obviously well hopefully he would have connected it to the constant power, but told ME to connect it to the accesssory coz thats what I was after.
Anyway cheers Perry and Lugo for the help, thought taking all that trim off woudl be a huge bitch but actually was pretty easy... Partyl because whoever installed the deck didnt have any screws at the back of the console, and only one on the CD player surround, which was useless because that bit of trim had snapped off and wasnt doing anything.
But its all good and working now, it was for my new laser jammer which im just about to write a thread about in magna mods. Also though I would hardwire my radar detector while I was at it.
Need a bit more help though, ive got a kenwood deck, and there is a wire on the laser jammer to mute the stereo, I connected it to the purple wire on the deck coz thats what I thought the auto mute was, but its not working. Anyone know the colour for the auto mute???
Cheers,
Ollie

wouldn't an easy place to get it be from the ciggy lighter? I've got 2 6" and 2 8" neons running off it. Just remember to use a fuse. Or use a relay off that and the constant power off the battery or something.
Opps my bad just read a bit more than a skim and you already done it. My bad

one had to go to the acccessory because when you take the key out if you don't lock the car with in 30seconds it will auto lock
