Greetings TRs....I have what seems to be a common problem with my auto transmission. The mongrel will not change smoothly from 2nd to 3rd when cold ie first 5 k. My patient and costly mechanic advises that the diagnostics from the computer in the auto and engine show nil problems. His advice is to get rid of the car because his intelligence is that these TRs throw gremilns and that no amount of fixing will stop the autos behaviour. I must at this point inform that I have replaced the auto with a second hand one from the wreckers with similar behaviour to the first auto. Also a reconditioned motor is in the TR

When I take off in the morning and it will not go into 3rd i drop it back into 2nd for 5ks or so then into drive and it then does what it is suppose to do change smoothly into 3rd .....is there anything wrong with this long term.

Could anyone advise me please?

Mine was doing the same thing, it turned out to be something to do with the tune of the car.
I was changing and adjusting a bunch of other things to cure a different problem (high erratic idle) and cured both at the same time.

If I can think of what it was (im old lol ) ill post it up.

might be a good idea to take it to a tranny place or someone who actually knows what there doing. 2nd hand doesn't mean its perfect theres a reason they get recod

what happens if u get another car with a problem he cant fix is he gonna use the same line

:stoopid:
I've found when i had problems with my battery earths, my tranny was acting up something chronic.

Auto trans will be sluggish until the fluids inside have warmed to optimum temperature too... Wait for Magna Buff's reply, he knows his auto transmissions.

I just remembered what I was doing when it went away.

I did a throttle body clean and when I blew through the little vacuum hose on the top it was blocked up with ****. I also had the manifold apart and found that the vacuum gallery was almost completely blocked.

When I cleaned em and put em back together the trannie stopped rough shifting

The crook vacuum must have been upsetting the computer.

Its not a hard job to do and the gasket kit is as cheap as from autobarn etc.

That mite explain why changing trannies had no effect.

I also had no fault codes
