So i took my car to Mits. today to get this rattle fixed thats really starting to annoy me. They said that the front engine pipe?.. was internally worn and the splitter is adrift causing the noise. Well i'm happy that i actually know whats causing the problem now as i had the exhaust shields removed and the alternator pulley replaced which made sfa difference.
So what i want to know is - what exactly is the front engine pipe and why did they quote me $915 for a new one? :gtfo:
They said i don't need to replace it if i can put up with it.. but it makes my car sound like a **** heap.
Is it only so much cos its from mitsubishi?

go to an exhaus place and they shoud be able to make one up for approx $500 no more....

this is a 3ltr v6 but similar to yours.
this is another way of fixing the pipe.

if i assume correctly its ur extractors so u may aswell upgrade to some paccies or rpw ones instead of stock ones

Cos when i got under the car that where i could hear the rattling coming from.

Just thinking it may be a crack in your cast manifold?
or a leaky gasket?

best way to find out is to get a long peice of hose and put it to your ear.... then listen around the engine bay untill you find it. :D

EDDIT does it get worse or better when it gets hot?

Well it sort of stays the same from what i can tell. If anything maybe a bit better when its hot.
Think i might take it to an exhaust place and see what they say

Ok just read your post.... that pipe i made and it joins up to the original cast manifold but does away with the dreaded t inersection that comes standard on the TR/TS V6.

the same part that is most probably rattling as it's two pipes one inside the other with heat wrpping inbetween, that comes off the manifold and joins the two banks together befor the catalitic converter....

EDIT the heat closes up the crack in the exhaust manifold/pipe....

EDIT:EDIT.... And yeah its only that much cause its from mits-rip-u.....

Just to throw it in, are they sure it's not the cat? You can get a "death rattle" when the cat has carked it...

Well it could be, but i think mits might of told me if it was.
I'm gonna take it to a few different exhaust places and see how their opinions vary :P
thanks for the help guys
