hey guys.
at the moment ive got an 03 TL magna with an oversized cannon which im gonna be replacing soon (heard that berklee are good. need something quieter but with best performance gains from changing a muffler. woohoo 1kw!!!)
my question is, is it possible to get dual exhaust on an 03 TL magna. Mettam mufflers don't reckon its possible due to not enough room.
also i am only after the dual exhausts for looks. if it is possble to fit one,is it possible to set it up so that the amount of back pressure and flow give the same performance gain.
interested in peoples thoughts.

yeah its possible, HEAPS of members have dual exhausts on here!
find a new exhaust shop, one with a clue
i have an awd with a 3" in to dual 2.5"
search for pics, i was just looking at a few, mine have been deleted though
there is easy (cheap) ways to do it if you just after appearance and dont want to fabricate a complete new cat back system

cheers for that mate.
this quote was from mettam mufflers btw,
who have been recommended by a few members.
does anybody know of any other exhaust places SOR in WA that can do a dual system?

Well on my 2nd gen they just put a Y piece before the spare wheel well (well around that area) then ran the one pipe to the standard cutout and another behind the spare wheel well and out the other side. Plenty of room

yeah dual is no worries, not a full-length, but split piping at the rear axles, theres heaps of room.
the spare wheel well is slightly left of centre, but thats the only thing that really needs to be accounted for

does this effect the back pressure in anyway. because Ive heard that to much flow is bad and i will lose power.

just by simply doing what tuff tr mentioned you wond drasticly increase exhaust flow... power will not change
dont listen to all the back pressure bull
maybe if you had a 0.8L automatuc 3cyl Matiz but not in a 3.5L magna

ok.
I've emailed back mettam mufflers to see what they think.
will also call around some other places to compare quotes and will go from there.
maybe if i actually get a full weeks work in i will be able to afford this, and if i want to get up for work guess i better be heading off.
thanks for the input.
just one other question what would be the best brand muffler to put in?

The biggest one possible. magnas rely on rear muffler plenty.. unless u want it stupid loud..:P

Because it looks stupid when your at the lights on a cold morning with smoke/whatever only coming from one exhaust..

hahahha
I have a dual exhaust setup with twin tips each side. I use 2 straight through berklee mufflers, and i wouldn't recommend straight through. Too drony on inside. From outside it sounds awesome.

might just chuck the one berklee on for now.
go dual system later.

^^^^ that's crazy! I don't think I've ever seen anyone put 2 mufflers on the same side before!
but I think the room the OP was talking about was on the left hand side, and there's plenty of room over there for a standard size muffler.
cheers,

i dunno what mettam mufflers were talking about.
RPW reckon they can do it for $600-$700. they would use 2 X 2" oval shaped lukey ultra flow
mufflers which should help with the noise reduction and droning.
as this is the only quote i have so far this is the way to go.
I'm gonna look around more before making my decision but.

i got quoted 1200 to do the full exhaust in my wagon, thats with pacemaker extractors and a complete 2.5" system including hi flow cat and 3 resonators (twin system with twin tips on each side)
wastedhello
19-10-2007, 11:17 PM
wow. thats not bad.
i was hoping for $600 to split at the rear axle and 2 mufflers.
can anybody tell me why RPW recommended 2" oval tips. does it help with the droning or something?

thats a reasonable price
i paid $1650 for
HM stainless extractors
3" High flow metal cat
3" stainless cat back-diff
2 3" hotdogs
then at the diff (awd)
dual 2.5" in to 1 muffler each side, with 3"stainless tips all mandrel bent

Thats about the going rate.
Sure thats not the size of the tips they'll be using? Probably using them cause they are cheap.
hunt around for some nice ones. I posted a WTD on AMC and found my lovely tips 2nd hand :D

I have the same set up on my third gen...
I got my set up for $800 for 2 x Stainless mufflers. See Willeton Exhasuts, he did my set up. Good job and knows his stuff.

i got a second gen and i work at rob bliss exhausts in brisbane. where the 2" pipe goes over the axel i have got a merge collector into two 1.5" inch pipes so the gas seperates evenly to keep the same back pressure in each pipe rather than a y or t splitter your car would sound good with 2.5" split into 2" with two meg style mufflers (brand names dont mean ****) if there is enough room and keep same power, tips dont make noise difference it just depends on how good the guys doing it is they dont want to fit bigger tips cause it is harder
