Ok, so reading the service manual last night I came across a possible cause for the inaccuracy in the trip computer (fuel used, average fuel, etc). It said that the system might be configured for the wrong engine (3.0L instead of 3.5L).

So this morning a do the check (hold MODE which switching on the acc) and lo and behold it is set to 3.0L.

Now according to the service manual I have to "Reset Centre Display by lifting the IOD connector for 5 seconds. (Ignition switch in LOCK position)".

Where exactly is this IOD connector?

Thanks guys

The little yellow thing holds a fuse called the "Ignition Off Draw" fuse (IOD). The term ignition-off draw identifies a normal condition where power is being drained from the battery with the ignition switch in the Off position. The IOD connector feeds the memory and sleep mode functions for some of the electronic modules in the vehicle as well as various other accessories that require battery current when the ignition switch is in the Off position, including the clock.

The IOD connector can be used by the vehicle owner as a convenient means of reducing battery depletion when a vehicle is to be stored for periods not to exceed about twenty days (short-term storage). Simply disconnect the IOD connector from the JB receptacle slot # 15 and place it in slot # 11 (see diagram above). However, it must be remembered that disconnecting the IOD connector will not eliminate IOD, but only reduce this normal condition. When a vehicle will not be used for more than twenty days, but less than thirty days, remove the IOD fuse from the Power Distribution Center (PDC).

Thanks very much, that was it ;)

Found it in the engine bay fuse box, it's this big yellow thing with two fuses in it. Pulling it out disconnects the two fuses, but the yellow thing doesn't actually come out, just comes out a little bit.

Took some photos for future reference.

Now correctly set on 3.5L

i was told by the other half (who is known to be wrong on occasion) that if you remove the neg terminal on the battery for a while, then reconnect it you will be able to get into the "tell the computer if its a 3 or a 3.5L" setup?

yep always have to reenter it when the battery is disconnected for a lil bit

so unfortunately shes right... just dont tell her :P

Yeah same effect as disconnecting that fuse for a few seconds, system looses memory, and now I have to screw around getting the ECU idling properly again :P

As soon as I stop atm I have to slip into N and just hold the revs up slightly so it doesn't stall :bowrofl:

yes but us awd folk dont have the choice, for us its 4d and 3.5 thats it just got to confirm

the regular 2wd folk can select between manual auto sedan wagon 3.0 and 3.5 i believe

Haha good one.

Any idea how I can speed up the ECU break in time? I am stalling all over the place, it's maddening!

Well I filled up this afternoon and to my delight the trip computer was almost spot on with the figures it displayed. It showed 26.7L used (26.2L went into the tank) and average of 15.6L/100 (I worked out 15.2L/100).

So yeah, problem solved! :D
