hey does anybody know whether there is any transmission coolers for manual transmissions? im just asking because i fried my clutch towing last weekend
i dont know whether it was the way i drive or whatever but the clutch was only about 6 months old...

No - a clutch is a friction surface - like brake pads on a brake disc.

You could cool the oil in the gearbox, but it wont stop you from burning out the clutch.

Auto tranmissions replace the clutch with a torque converter - an oil filled turbine basically - which when it slips produces heat as well, this heats up the transmission fluid (oil) which is passed through a transmission cooler to remove this heat.

If you are going to be doing a lot of towing - it sounds like it might be worthwhile upgrading to a clutch with a heavier pressure plate to stop the slipping. It will make the car a little bit "harsher" to drive normally, but like I said - if you are going to do alot of towing it will be better in the long run.

And perhaps an engine with a bit more torque might lessen the impact of the load aswell.

i was thinking of upgrading when it died you can pick up vrx's quite cheaply these days!

edit: btw i also cracked the flywheel something serious...

i dont do alot of towing really i was moving and nobody else offered to tow so my car was towing pretty much all saturday in the stinking hot sydney weather, i left it over night to cool down but i still needed to tow on sunday so thats how its ****ed! but ill keep that in mind next time:)
