Hi My headliner is caving in on me, When i moved to Wagga Wagga the first weekend it hit 50deg and melted all floppy like I’m in an old seedy panel van.

Now I thought if I just pry it from around the edges while its in the car give it a spray with some adhesive and tack it back up it’’d be fine. No GO tried that.

First problem = insulation has turned to dust and wont bond to SFA.

Question.
Do you think I could let the whole thing hang from the light then try to get rid of all the insulation between the wood and the material then try to stick it back up?

Or do I need to take out the wood/whatever its made from out and then stick the cloth back to it and put it all back in together? I hear its quite hard to do this in a sedan?

Any recommendation, I’m thinking if I get some sound deadener I could put some flames in between the wood and the material. (Pipe dream, only If I need to take the whole lot out)

Cheers

Im pretty sure most car trimmers only charge roughly $200 for new roof lining anyways, you might be putting youself in a situation with more headaches than its worth.

take the liner out ( it's only cardboard). pull off old material and throw it away. use an old sponge to dust off the board. get a good quality spray adhesive. spray the back of the new material and the cleaned side of the board. allow to dry. then you'll need a couple of mates to hold the material corners up while you press it down. start from the middle and work outward. just make sure your hands are clean

or be a bogan and just poke a heap of pinholes in the lining and then squirt some glue in there. A syringe works well for just stabbing in, squirting the glue and repeating. Can do all over the rooflining. Works fine and not noticeable if you're not tooooooo worried about your car. If you are then yeh, go get it professionally done as it'll last longer than any home job(unless ur a roof liner and u do it from home :D )

Or go to a wrecker and pull one out of a newer car like a TJ or something.

Ive done this a few times with 2nd Gens, usually costs ~$50.

He's already said that glue won't bond to anything because of the dust... your method won't work there.

I'd just get it retrimmed something nice... :)

:stoopid: Go with this option- the result is attached- only cost me $100 and looks awesome :)

the best material for headlining is headlining material!

go to your local trimmer and buy a few meters pretty much all triommers will have a few meters floating around, cost about $20pm though and has the foam backing on it.... then get some spray advesive 3M stuff is the best 74sa is better than 76sa to easy....

or do as i did in my 1st gen cut loose with the staple gun hahaha...

I had mine recovered for $75, only catch was i had to remove and refit myself (easy as)

just took it in the them, chose the color i wanted and picked it up the next day.

could be worth gettin some quotes..... (BTW $140 if i just took the car in and got them to do it all)
