yesterday I left the parkers on and flattened the battery. I took it out and charged it and put it back in, but now the car wont kick over. you can hear the solenoid go "click" when you turn the key, and all lights on the dash work, including the radio and central locking etc. when you initially connect the battery, the hazard lights blink slowly for quite a while (maybe thats normal for a 2nd gen?) if I change the gear to R, or 1, 2 and Drive, you can hear a sort of buzzing from the motor.
I only bought it a day ago so I'm in the dark on this model
Any suggestions?

You may have damaged the battery when you ran it flat and now its not holding charge. Try a different battery first, otherwise you may have fried something (eg. ecu) when you re-connected the battery.

coolies I'll check that out, I have another battery on charge as we speak. but the battery in it now (the one I ran flat) is still holding enough power to run all the electronics though (radio, lights, horn, dash etc, can also hear the electronics under the hood working) but maybe not enough power to start the engine (I hope its just the battery!)
thanks

When the battery died in my TJ, it could still run the stereo, but the starter motor wouldn't even fire, must pull some massive current from the system, or more so the sudden drain of current that a dead battery just can't provide.
Hopefully it is that mate :).
In my TR however it did have the odd occasion where the starter wouldn't fire if it got too hot, you mention you only just bought the car? They may have sold it because of this problem.

Very true! I'll get my mate to come over and get another battery and see if that will fix it.
Can I connect another battery to the one in the car via jump cables for more power to the system?
Yeah my old 88 elite had a dodgy solenoid, would start cold but not hot. but I've had this car hot and its started without fail multiple times on the first day I had it.
Well I did get it for a bargain..

Yeh same thing you had with your elite, but it can work at times and not at other times, it was really annoying because you can't work out whats wrong if it doesn't do it all the time, whenever i had my mechanic look at it, it would work every time lol, then as soon as he'd leave bam wouldn't work haha.
Yeh you can just hook up his battery to yours like you would normally to jump start a car.

Holy crap!
I was checking the fuses (again) in the car, I was right on the floor looking up under the dash and I found some sort of switch that has been installed near the fuses, quite small. looks like someone installed it themselves, but I flicked it and the car starts!
