First things first, the OEM ones are FOG lights NOT driving lamps.

Driving Lamps are legal IIRC however FOG lamps are not permitted except under "adverse weather conditions".

Carry on.

upgrading all the globes in these headlights makes a a big difference, even if you still go to driving lights later

Driving lights can only be used with high beams btw.

probably referring to bulbs like phillips bluevision, etc etc

I used phillips globes, can't remember which ones, but not blue / diamond whatever rice ones. They give out a really white light. Huge difference.
All the factory fog lamps do in normal conditions is light up the road a couple of metres out.
not much will compete with good old round aircraft landing lights though.

Yeah I'm gonna pickup some of the white headlights off eBay and see how they go. They have both the H7 (normal) and H1 (high beam).

Hey do you reckon there would be a problem with putting 100w bulbs in the fog lights as opposed to the standard 55w? My concern is the greater heat generated by the brighter bulb. I tried it when replacing the bulbs and they worked (and were considerably brighter) but I'm just thinking about the heat issue.

Cheers

On good recommendation from VREX several weeks ago, I also installed the Phillips Vision Plus, there was a significant special (Fathers day) at autobarn, and I purchased them. They were a real pain to install but worth it, and they just light up the road really well, much better than the MMALs standard bulbs. Replaced all bulbs, driving lights, high beams etc. If you can wait until autobarn have a special, and get them and save heaps $$$$.

Howdy,

I've got a 04 TL, and i do quite a bit of driving at night and often see alot of roos on the road, within in 10minutes the other night saw 15 of the ****ers. But also do quite alot of town driving and will be doing city driving next year.

Now i have no idea about lights lol so what are the best type to put in a 04 TL?

What brand etc are best :D the Phillips Vision Plus sound pretty good.

Cheers

i wouldnt go uprating your wattage too much, in said commodore with air craft landing lights i also put 120/100 in the headlights, which in turn overloaded the wiring and caused them to melt.

Yeah that was my concern too. I found a thread last night with a guy who put 100w's in his foggies, I posted in the thread but I'll send him a PM in case he doesn't see the thread.

Upgrade globes are the go even more if you go to driving lights later, otherwise you dip your high beam and go from daylight to standard low beams. Mine are Phillips Vision plus, really white light and don't draw any more than the standard globe. Handy if you add more lights later too. I might have said this before, but I reckon Mitsu spent a million designing these lights and fitted them with the cheapest possible globes.
Mad-biker, not as simple as it used to be to change head light globes, tl tw you remove the left front wheel, and I think the washer bottle or something on the RHS. I paid to get mine done while it was in for a service. Even the small ones under the bumper were going to be a pain till we put it on a hoist.
Pilotdude, I have had hopper stoppers on all my cars and bikes for as long as I can remember and have seen them work. The ones to get are in GWS in the red and black packet. 20 bucks well spent.

If you intend to do it yourself, here are some instructions...

I did my own globe change (TL/KL). The left headlight is the hardest. You need to remove the left wheel, unscrew and peel back the plastic under the fender. Then put your hand though a small hole and feel your way around. The tricky part is pinching the plastic connection plug in order to disconnect from the back of the bulb. You can only use one hand for this, theres no room for two hands. Don't pull too hard coz you'll end up ripping out the back of the headlight assembly. (but don't worry, can be put together easily if you do)

The right headlight is easier, and best to be done first. Remove the washer bottle (unscrew and disconnect) and then remove the horn from the side of the fender, you can then see the back of the headlight from there.

The driving lights under the bumper are easy peasy, two second change over.

Philips Vision Plus will do a good job, and you will notice the improvement immediately (at night).
P.S. Note however that depending on how you go, you may need to check and adjust the head lamps using the screw adjustments provided with the headlight. I had my right headlight searching the trees of possums! :D

Well I just bought a set of Parabolics for my TJ.
Whilst at it a bought a set of Osram Night Breaker (http://www.osram.com/osram_com/Consumer/Automotive_Lighting/Products/Headlights/NIGHT_BREAKER/index.html) +90% xenon bulbs.
90% brighter,
standard 55w,
UV cut
DOT approved.

Cost me ~$90 to import pair of H1's and H7's
Will be interesting to see what there like when they get here.

just this week i bought a set of Phillips Vision plus globes for Pam's TJ sport.
H7 for the low beam $64.99 a set at auto barn
H1 for the high beam, about $42.99 at auto barn also.
Pretty happy with the result so far. nice and white light. I will change the foggies over later.

Cheers, Cheers and Cheers :)

having just driven for the fist time properly @ night the headlights on full are ****, dimmed they arent too bad. But i must say i love how the lights when on full sit high on the road its great you can see quite a bit more than the commodore which are aimed at the ground lol!

Thanks guys, might look at vision plus, may look at the night breakers as well. I intend on doing quite a bit of night driving in the bush with roos, emus and big dirty cows on the road lol so every bit of light helps!

Driving lights come on with low beams don't they? I've never seen a 3rd gen rada around at night without the driving lights on.
