Hi all,
Today was not a good day in that my electric antenna broke. It went up about 10cm and then just stopped as the motor made alot of wierd noises. both in the up and down direction. I assume it will be a replacement:rant: .
Anyway, just cavasing responses about an idea while i have the thing out, I have a verada with a factory stereo that has the half height button on it. I have replaced the HU with a pioneer so the ariel works all the time. I have identified in the service manual that on the ariel plug if you switch power between two of the wires you can reactivate this half height feature. (i use a low car park). Has anyone tried this? good feature to have.
Thanks in advance

Hi
I noticed that u said that u found it in the service manual. I was wishing to do the same, and was wondering how it works in that image. Because i have 1999 KH verada and dont recall where that plug comes from. Im also interested if anyone has modified or created there own way of making the antenna go up only half way.

When I had my KE I only ever used the half height, mainly because my aerial got bent and full height was difficult to get and almost impossible to retract.
On half height around the city I got fairly good performance but when outside the metro area it was hopeless.
On half height tho, I never had any extension/retraction problems so I think it's preferable to use this when ur not driving interstate.

Hi ngga57,
The plug in the pic is at the back of the antenna motor. If you have a K series car, the plug will be wired for the half height feature. to get the switch installed, buy a $2 for an on/off/on switch. The diagram explains how when switching the power between the wires changes the antenna height. all you have to do is connect the wire from positions 6 & 7 from the diagram to the ON positions of the new switch with an earth in the middle and then you have control of the antenna in full, half height and off seperate from the radio! The antenna wires follow to the back of the radio so you can access them there. the half height wire is in its own plug, while the normal antenna wire is in the main radio plug. Good Luck

Hi mcs_xi
Thanks i'll have to give it a go. I just fixed up my aerial in me car after it wasnt connected on my headunits due to the previous owner not connecting it up. I wasted a very long time trying to find the right wire, as the haynes manual said use the blue wire (not pink). Until my battery went dead twice i decided to look at the forums and found your thread and others.
I remember my old man use to have a Nissan patrol and it was awesome that you could adjust power aerial to any position you wanted, pitty it cant be done for the magna. But half is good enough for me :)
