I had a Pioneer AVH-6850 installed into my TJ today. I didn't do it, as I have no idea about this kind of stuff.
Firstly, my electric aerial arises while the deck is on, even when Im playing CD's or DVD's. I'm assuming that something i wired wrong? I'd prefer the aerial to only come up when I listen to the radio.
Second, my central locking no longer works. If I use my remote to lock the doors, the car beeps, like it does when a door is ajar. However if I use my key, it's fine and locks.
Can someone give me a brief detail of whats wrong and how to fix it, so I can go back tomorrow and let him know
Cheers

Not sure about the Pioneer, but when I installed my JVC unit, there was two wires I could have hooked up the aerial to.
The first was the aerial wire, which would only activate the aerial when the radio is in use ( and de-activates when I switch to CD). The other wire is used for switching on an amp, whenever the head unit is on, and this is activated whenever the hu is on, whether Cd or radio
obviously it would be better to wire it up to the first one if it is available. On my JVC the two wires were almost identical and I could've easily mixed em up if I wasn't paying attention

You can not do anything about the aerial besides add a switch. The reason is that the remote wire will always turn on when you deck is on and this will tell the aerial to rise up. If you disconnect it, the aerial will not go up and you wont get reception. If you want control, add a $2 switch then you can tell it to go up and down.
Central locking shouldn't have anything to do with the deck. That is a strange one.

id say your central locking is a fuse issue from when the installation took place. be sure to check them all

Would the stock deck already have one of these switches? As the old deck raised the aerial only when needed.

different headunits will have different functions
you may find that your headunit is lacking in this area compared to the previous, in which case you are unfortunatly stuck with the aerial the way it is..but it could be worse, you could drive a focus with no retractable aerial and worry about it all day long as it sits 5 blocks away in the CBD :(

My old head deck used to do that and all i did was the switch thing that the guys are talking about.. worked a treat. i also hated the look of the magnas 8 foot aerial off the quarter.
About a year or so ago i hated the look of the magna aerial up, i always wanted it down so i installed me a internal one mounted on the back window. did the job of the standard one to about 90% so i was happy..:P
I liked my internal one so much and hated the look of the rear quarter aerial so much i removed it from the guard last week and had the hole welded over..:P Looks 100x better now..:)

How are the switches installed? Behind the deck in a place I can't see, or does it sit on the dash?

Do you have a link or anything showing me one of these mate? Sounds like an even better idea.

about your central locking issue, read up in your owners manual about programming the clicker to the car, When the guy installed the head unit he may have disconected the battery. Might just need the clicker re-programmed...

re: the aerial issue, i dont see how a new pioneer unit wouldnt have that feature already... even and old pioneer mp3 deck i got in 2004 had that function! i'd be looking at the wiring before going along with a switch, as i bet they got a wire wrong (after all, seems alot of magnas/radas have different wiring, even amongst 3rd gens)

nope man i had the same dvd headunit
peeee ed me off so i unplugged the antena so it didnt extend and it still had good reception!
it doesnt operate like the factory headunit, antenna is either up when unit is on or not at all ever!
the worst thing though on that unit is the illumination, it dosent dim :doubt: and the blue keys are too bright at night! the pannel dims just fine though

Well, I've still got the central locking problem
I've checked the fuses and they are fine, I've also reset the remote.
Any ideas??

Spot on .. Every deck has 2 Blue wires. One is for the antenna and the other is for the amp. Obviously the person who installed your deck has connected the remote antenna wire of your Magna to the blue amp wire of the deck thus making the antenna stay up until the deck is off.
You dont need a switch you need the correct wire hooked up.
EDIT: i just stepped on a mine :P

^^
This would probably be the case, on the JVC decks, there's a blue wite that goes to the antenna, and there's a blue wire with a black stripe that goes to the amp - this may be similar with the pioneer.

Incorrect. We have 3 Pioneer decks and they only have 1 single remote out. My mate has one and his is the same as well. Got my bro an Alpine deck and they have 2 remote outs, one for the aerial and one for the amps. JVC work the same but as someone said above it can be a different colour.

I stand corrected on the Pioneer then :) I have an alpine and have installed Sony and Kenwood with various amps.
