I had the same thing when I bought mine 9 months ago. Process is pretty easy.
1. Drop the steering column to its lowest height setting
2. Get underneath the steering column and remove the screws that hold the top and bottom halves of the column shroud together
3. Now you need to remove the black plastic dash surround that goes around the dash glass. First remove the two phillips head screws underneath the top of the surround. Then carefully use a padded screwdriver to lever out the the surround at the bottom RH and LH corners (there is a metal clip on each side which you are trying to disengage)
4. Carefully withdraw the surround and disconnect the warning lamp connections along the lower edge of the back
5. Now you have clear access to the dash glass. First remove the knob on the end of the trip meter reset button (just pull it off). Now use a flat bladed screwdriver to depress and unlock each of the clips moulded into the dash glass and which hold it to the instrument cluster. Bingo, out it comes
6. Polish the dust off the instrument cluster and from inside your dash glass with Mr Sheen and a soft cloth.
7. Reverse the steps to put it back together

Step 2 is not required. Nor is the need to remove the button in step 5.

indeed, i couldnt find any screws! and the button is smaller than the hole it fits through so i didnt need to take it off. the rest of the guide was spot on though :)

I only said remove the trip meter button cos if you lose the little bugger you won't be able to buy the part.
If you don't remove the steering column shrouds you will risk scrape damage to the column top shroud as you pull out the instrument glass shroud. Your choice.
Not sure why you couldn't find the screws for the dash glass shroud. I have two up underneath the upper lip of the dash glass shroud....

piece of pie this is.
Undo the cluster bezel screws, take the cluster bezel out, undo the cluster retaining screws, take the cluster out. The lens should just unclip from the cluster. Wipe it clean inside, replace and re-install.

no i found them immediately. i wasnt sure what you meant by the screws that would be present when i lowered the steering column to the lowest point; i couldnt find any screws around there.
