hi guys, i'm only new on the old magna forum. Only joined up as my job is hell boring and i've got nothing better to do than surf the net all day.

I've got a 98 TF advance wagon, which I've had for about 6 months. Always wanted a wagon after my old man had a TS and TL wagon, so i got the TF. its got the stock 3L and auto combo engine/driveline wise, and i was going to keep it that way, but after seeing some of the products available, well, that may change.

Most of my money goes on my weekend toy though. CM Valiant running 383 big block, so money for the magna is tight.

I've ordered the K&N pod filter set up (I refuse to put in a panel filter for those who prefer that to pod), and looking at the high flow throttle body one of the members on here does. I think that will do to start with. I'm not doing exhaust, as I believe the only 6cyl engine ever to sound tough with an exhaust was the old hemi 265, so not going to have my magna sound like a buzz box.

If there's any other mods or advice you could suggest, please feel free. I'm all ears. Hope you like the magna. She was some champagne colour when i got her. Now she wears Ford Blueprint, T5 tint and 17" chrome ROH Longchamp mags. Stereo consists of Boss audio in dash DVD player, clarion amp, stock speakers front and rear and 12 inch JBL sub.

I don't have many pictures, so i'll just put one up for now.
cheers,
Nathan.

the colour is called BLUEPRINT. its a ford colour off their XR6/XR8's both AU and BA. I had my old VN painted in the same colour too. I love it.

luckily I bought the Val with the conversion already done by the previous owner. since owning, i've rebuilt the 727 with full reverse pattern manual shift, added 750 mighty demon, and the guages and scoop. Its a money pit though, something keeps breaking, that's why i love the magna. starts, runs and stops every time. haha.

here's a pic of the engine bay. its off a phone, so not real clear. added K&N xstream top filter to go with the barry grant. top gun 10mm leads. chrome edelbrock covers. hand made 1 7/8 primary tuned length extractors with twin 2 1/2 inch system. sounds tough. goes not bad for a near 2 tonne car. will run 12's on slicks.

Sorry missed a word, meant "colour coding".
You left the stock grey bits?

ah ok.. my old VN i painted straight over everything, and it looked a little too blue, so i left these to break it up a bit. They are coming off to get painted jet black soon, as that will fit in better with the tint, tyres, window edging etc. The grey looks terrible, but I think black will set it off even more than if it was all blue.

The vn looks great all blue, maybe abit of chrome striping along the door moulds would have broken it up abit.

I actually plan to paint my TJ blueprint someday, love the colour!

this is the side of the VN.. believe it or not, but the little "V8" badge on the guard made a huge difference to breaking it up a bit. I just found it to be a bit too much, and the magna being a wagon may have looked a bit too blue as well. I've got paint left over, if the black doesn't look any good, i'll do them blueprint as well.

i still think its the best standard colour on a car ever. but strangely enough, I only like it on cars other than the falcons. odd.

LOVE THE VAL!

Is that scoop just so the carby will fit?

When we put our 351 in an XC Ute, we had to cut a hole in the bonnet so it'd fit...

not really. The air cleaner does protude through the bonnet, but I could get it under the bonnet if I wanted to. Its just that the big block generates way too much heat to not have it out the bonnet. it would be sucking nothing but ultra heated air if i left it under. that's why its also got the standard air filter housing attached, so that the air stays as cool as possible. plus the scoop looks cool!! :D

Man that Val is a beast, although the magna also has some potential if you are willing.

i'm tempted, but its an auto, so performance is stunted. and as soon as you start modifying, things go wrong. mate up here has a VRX with full exhaust and a couple of other things, and it goes hard (scares V8 falcodores), but unless you're prepared to throw big dollars, they are still only ever going to be a "quick" car. And i'm not really into the whole "bling" thing.

i'm not into big stereos and love my V8's, but i can't drive a standard looking car, that's why i did the magna the way it is. it gets noticed, has enough punch to get me outta trouble and is reliable. For a daily, i'm pretty happy, but as stated, i'll be doing the pod filter/cai/throttle body thing for a little bit more urge and the induction noise. lol

You could do a manual conversion, if thats what is holding you back. The you have many more oportunities!

I have considered that option, but I think it would work out cheaper for me to sell mine, and find a manual version than to do the conversion. although i believe the v6 manual wagon would be a fairly rare beast.

Have a look around on the site, there are lots of options, there are some members who have done the conversion for $1000. im going to get mine done next year but thats going to cost a few extra dollars. Anyways there are plenty of ways to gain power, have fun.

thanks mate. for a total cost of less than 2 grand, i've done paint, mags and stereo. I'm stoked, but unfortunately, now i've started, its hard to stop. haha.

the val is almost done now, only a few paint repairs to do (touch wood), so money for the magna might be a bit more forthcoming.

ok.. did a bit of a swap of mags couple of weeks ago.. to see what the bling off the magna would look like on the val.. and vice versa.. looks sweet on the val, but offsets are way off, as you can see by the old 265's sticking out on the magna and the chromies rubbed on the leaves on the val.. but a set of the old spacers off ebay should fix that problem..

been a while since i've been on here guys, so thought i'd throw up a couple of pics. we were stuffing around on the weekend. My little bro just bought a 2002 VRX with about 200kw and got some 20's for it, so i threw them on to see what they looked like. rides like a bus, but they look hell cool I think.. might have to steal them off him.

Hey Naze, I've seen you around on QLD Street Scene.

Always liked that colour blue on that wagon for some reason.

Might steal your val wheels off you and run them on the front of my car for a few runs at the drags ay :P

if you get chrome mags like that, make sure you lower it.

I won't be putting the 20's on mine, as I do too many k's in my car to warrant new 20's every 12 months.

My little bro's car was bought off a mate up here in Cairns. Its a VR-X with pacemaker extractors, better cam and associated components, full exhaust. It regularly used to scare gen III's when my mate owned it, and came within a couple of carlengths of my old VN 5L which ran 13.9's down the quarter.
