Hello all,

Just a quick question for those with TL's or at least with a 3.5L

I just checked my oil and noticed that the last, 2 or 3 inches, the metal wasn't smooth, it was a bit like a nail file, or fine sand paper. I couldn't scratch it off with my thumb. I was just wondering if this is the way they are, perhaps to make reading oil leave's more accurate?

Cheers

Yeap, thats the way they are in my TJ Advance 03. You can't scrach it off and I dont think any oil can make it like that, so obviously its for ease for reading.

some cars dipsticks are engraved over the area that marks the accepted range for oil levels.

i suspect its to assist with easy ID and also maybe to assist with prevent low viscosity oil from seeping down the dipstick before it can be read.

2 TJ's in my garage, and they're both the same.
