hey guys
i'm a 1st time owner of a TE magna V6 auto. It has a rebuilt engine, as the previous owner (lady owner) decided to keep driving with the needle on the H.
Bought the car off the mechanic as they bought it off her cos she couldn't afford the repairs.
Now... i've done about 2000kms and there is a oil leak from the cam cover and its going onto the exhaust manifold. What i want to know is; Is this a common problem with Magnas? Where are the usual places for oil leaks? is there another solution besides taking it off and using gasket goo?
any help is awesome!

you would remove all the studs in the heads
and reface all surfaces including the inlet manifold valley cover on both heads
next would be to replace the rocker covers
from an engine not been cooked or overheated
cant tighten the rockers too much as that may strip the threads
in the cam shaft bearings (approx 6-8 nm max )

the rocker cover gaskets go pretty regularly. no biggie. i've changed heaps of them. new ones from mitsu are about $20-$30. rocker cover's are held on with some 10mm bolts. easy DIY job.

The bolts are 6mm, the heads are 10mm.
Just a note to the folks that measure a bolt by the size of the head. This is incorrect. It is the diameter of the thread, and length is from under the head.:D

I'm thinking of getting a new rubber gasket and using a silicon gasket compound to reinforce the gasket. Since its a common problem.

i wouldn't recomend it as the next time you have to get the gasket out it will likely break up and you will have to dig it out with a screw driver(I've had to do it before. it involves alot of swearing). just change over the gaskets with the new ones and tighten the bolts(not too tight). this will be fine for ages.
