Hey guys, as some of you may know, i have a few patches of paint stuffed up on my bonnet. As it going to be easier and probably cheaper to buy a whole new bonnet and paint rather than prep the existing one. So I am going to get a TJ bonnet and grille.
Im just wondering if anyone has done this? Is it just a complete swap over? Do i need to modify the grille area to make it fit? Ihavent been to my panel shop yet, so im not really sure.
Thanks Guys any input is good input.

i think all you need to adjust is the bonnet release, that just needs to be re-positioned a bit lower for the new bonnet
other than that it is a straight swap and looks great

i doubt very much that it will be cheaper to change over to a TJ front than fixing your original bonnet. if they strip and repaint your bonnet your only looking at $400-$600 depending on its condition/previous repairs. The TJ front will cost the bonnet, under bonnet rubber seals (there is a TJ specific one), grille, bonnet latch trim(a TF one doesn't fit) plus painting the bonnet in AND out as well as the grille surround if you choose. even if you get everything second hand you will still pay more in paint as the TJ bonnet needs both sides painted, your original one only needs the outside done.

Yeah true, but if it ends up only costing like an extra 500 - 600 in the end, i will just do it for something different anyway. I didnt think about how they would have to paint both sides of the bonnet. Ah well, i havent looked into everything properly yet. I guess ill find out things along the way.
Well my Corolla got a respray to fix that exact same issue, over the whole body and only came a grand. If you want I can find out the name of the paint place which did it, your probably looking at $300-400 to get the bonnet done in the same colour at a guess (so don't hold me to it).
I can vouch for his work too, mine was resprayed 2 years or so ago by him and its still perfect like new!

what about fixing your bonnet and getting a letterbox grille. it will make your car more original as there are heaps of TJ vrx's about, not many TE/TF/TH's with vrx kits and letterboxes grille. Gerards car grives you an indication of what it would look like(minus the centre post in his grille). i reckon the earlier front if done right (eg Gerards or Ashneels old car) can look as good or better than the TJ front anyway. probably end up cheaper too. just some food for thought.
