it definitely suits the magna TJ... but from what i heard from a friend who tracks it, it thins out very quickly like for 5-10 mins after he revs on the track... perth should be as warm as qld so i suggest buying that and using it only after summer while during this summer use something with a 40... but if you dont travel much on long trips i would say 5w-30 is perfect even for summer in city driving... i am currently using the shell eco10 which is 10w-30... but gonna do a change to shell helix ultra which is 5w-40 soon to prep it for the summer, but again i travel from QLD to NSW and VIC so i would need something that protects my engine when i am cruising on the hot highway
Factory fill in Magna's is 5W30. Castrol Edge certainly is good oil and that price is hard to ignore. You might find your valve train noisier on hot days, but that in my opinion is not fault off the oil but rather design/quality issue of lush adjusters.
I am using BP Visco 5000 5W40 at $39 for 4 litres. Very happy with it. Used Motul 4100 Turbolight 10W40 for years, but found BP to be better on cold mornings.

i might stick with the magnatec from the sounds off it, perth being as hot as it is, i'd rather not have the problems. thanks for the info

Id still buy a bottle for the colder months, doubt it'll go that cheap again

I used to put this in my KE, it used to rattle when cold but when it was warm it was alright.
I dont know if it was a placebo, but when I put 15w40 in it after having the 5w30 in for about 15,000km (did 3 changes of course), sure it was quieter when cold, but she felt bloody slow in comparison.

i've encounted that as well... thicker oil seems to make the car slower... i now use mobil 1 5w50. no problems... seems to respond real well with 184000km.
Read the manual. 5w-30 oil is way too 'watery' for the engine.
