Hey guys,

Ive been fixed on getting a black magna, but its not looking good, so if i were to get a different colour, and then paint it, how much would a full respray cost??
This is also due to the fact that ill need to spray the kit that I wanna get , so ill already be getting all the paint set up and everything.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

PS: Im in WA

I don't think you will get much change from 5G.... full respray, good quality job.:doubt:

you probably would be lookin at a minimum of 5k if you want all the insides, engine bay, boot area, kit plus the outside its not a small job by anymeans

I come from a long list of Spray Painting family from MMAL factory and workshop environments.

Full body colour change is the most expensive option when it comes to respray. Not worth it unless you want to change to a colour no-one else has, to make it unique for show etc...Otherwise it would be just another black Magna. But then again if you have the money to spend...some people are wealthy.

There's alot to paint. the whole car practically has to be stripped to a shell....
I'ts because you are changing colour...

Best bet is to get what you want the first time. only compromise in rushed situations.:D

My parents had their VL Walkinshaw Commodore resprayed a few years back.

They opted for a full bare metal respray. It was the full car + bodykit, door jambs, and the lip of the engine bay and boot. It cost them over $8000.

They didn't mind paying it because the panel beaters did a bloody beautiful job at it (and since it's a collector car they didn't want something crappy) plus it would have added to the car's resale (paint was fading beforehand so it would have knocked a few grand off the sale price).

In comparison, I think you'd be looking at $4-5k for a decent job (not necessarily back to bare metal though). Plus you have the issues that underneath it all, it's a different colour (ie inside the doors - even if it's not noticable) and unless the paint was really bad beforehand, it's unlikely to add anything to the resale value of the car.

Unless you could find a Magna that was significantly cheaper than others because it needed a new paint job (unlikely), you'd be better off just paying the WA premium or shipping one over from the East States. I wouldn't have thought that transporting a car from, say, Melbourne to Perth would be much more than a grand.

hey guys im having some issues with the paint on my dark maroon TF....

the side mirror is going all white (paint is flaking off). Was like that when i bought it a year ago and hasnt really gotten much worse but is annoyin as all hell. How much would it be to get this repainted???

then on the roof there is a white patch, looks like the paint is fading away and u can c the white of the primer. Started off at about the size of a 10cent peice but has grown to the size of a 50 cent peice and another little dot has appear next to it. Can i get just that area painted? or would i have to do the whole roof??? Or the whole panel that makes up the roof?

then also the paint is beginin to flake on my rear bumper where there is a vertical groove about half way down the bumper. This would cost around 200 to get touched up yeah? don't really trust myself in doing it....

What cost would i be looking at? about 600-800 all up?

I have a mate who works at a panel beater and sparyer... he practically manages the shop. They have a spraying room but no oven to bake metalic paint jobs but he can do matte jobs... reckon a white matt colour would look good? how much work would be involved in preppin the car for a job like that? probably wouldnt do the engine bay and boot as this car will be stayin the i family probably until it dies as ill be handing it off to my folks when i get another car in 5-6 yrs time... (i work on 10 year plans).... lol...

It's about a grand between capital cities including insurance.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just jump on a plane ($199 mid-week) and drive (~3000km) it back?

I got quoted $300 from Ingleburn in NSW to Mentone VIC.

Google "Moving cars" and get an online quote from depot to depot (the cheapest option)

As other have suggested here, it all gets down to how far you wanna go. 6-8k should do you for a top quality job NOT including engine bay, door openings, boot underside etc. But if you want it to look factory, then you will need to paint all those areas. And doing that properly means bare shelling the car ie., remove total drivetrain, interior etc. I bare shelled a BMW 635CSi with Stowes Repairs in Syndey back in the late 90's. Back then it cost me 20k due to the sheer labour in getting the car down to a shell and then rebuilding it. Upside was it won that year's BMW Nationals with a perfect paint score of 150/150 and People's Choice  . So you get what you pay for....

Really? We sold the Walkinshaw last year, and we shipped it from Gladstone (600kms north of Brisbane) to Melbourne for about $900

You're dead right. In the end I had a show winning car that I wasn't game to drive. Crazy  Never mind. It had to go to put my eldest son through uni....
