you would have to run a separate switch for the aerial. Just find out which it is and run wires back to the switch and hey presto. Either that or turn of your radio before going into your shed.

is their a way to have the radio on, and the aerial down, or part down with my 05 magna, coz im going to loose it everytime i drive into my garage.

also how do i set the clock, theirs no buttons near it, im guessing its through the trip computer?

mad

yes

turn car off so ant is down, remove boot carpet on antenna side and unplug the electrical connection, takes 2 sec and anyone can do it! i did this cos i was sick of seeing the silly thing and my reception was still good

Yes you can have the ariel either half way or off completely with a switch. I did this to my car last weekend. Place a swtich (on/off/on config) between the power (pink wire) from the radio and place the white/green stripe wire on the other terminal and by using the switch mentioned above i have the choice of full or half height or completely down at all times. All the wires mentioned exist behind the radio currently with the wht/grn wire in its own two pin plug with a blue (phone mute) wire.

Also with the ignition in the acc position, holding the up or down arrow speed alarm buttons adjusts the clock. it should be in your car manual. but i believe up button = hour & down = minute.

Going to hijack the thread a bit here......

Should the aerial make much noise, it just sounds quite clunky when it retracts. May put some oil or something that may help? Or is it normal to make a bit of fuss as it goes down lol

yeah makes heaps of noise if you have a commodore or falcon, but on my magna it's silent...

i have greased it up a little so it slides in and out of all the sections smoothly, and it does just that!

for me its just in ignition mode (ie not acc, but radio turned on, forgot what its called!), but yes, up=hour, down=minute

Don't the magna's have an "ant" button? Which brings it down to half height?

on my aftermarket pioneer HU, i connected the power antenna to the "signal trigger" on the HU which you connect the amps to (to turn them on and off with the head unit) and just added an in-line toggle switch in between the signal cable and the antenna to turn the antenna on or off (up or down).
the hardest part was finding a switch with enough thread to fit through the dash next to the steering column (there seems to be a layer of soft foam over the plastic thats 10mm ish thick)

Edit: sorry forgot to add, it's a TJ11

Yeah if you turn off your headunit the aerial will retract, surely you can do without the radio for the 5 secs your in the car after pulling in :P

i know, but every time i drive in, i forget and hear it go clunk :-(
Listen to a cd? Or the ipod?

It was a pain in the **** as with some aftermarket HU's (like mine) the antenna is always up regardless of the source of the music or movie or whatever.

personally i dont wana go chopping it up and installing switches :-) like to keep it new looking...

Man up.

Open the storage console next to you on your left.
Pull up the plastic cover that covers your middle section and make sure you lever is in N ( auto or Manual ).
It should slide out from underneath the front console and it will be out. Look up toward the front of the headunit down the bottom to the left ( passenger side ) and there should be a random wire heading to the rear covered in that black plastic crap.
Cut the pastic open to make sure there is only 1 wire in there.
Then go buy a $2 switch and wire it in.
I just ran it up out of the manual gear boot and it sat there with double sided tape. When I sold the car, I just joined the 2 wires together again and tucked back under....

If you would like some picces I can take some tonight.

Sorry to hijack, but how high is the aerial where its fully extended (including the car)? I've looked at a few 3rd gens lately with electric antennas and I'm a little worried about it making it under the garage door, which doesn't extend to full height anymore (about 1.7m now) thanks to a certain someone (not me) reversing the car into it....

If its higher than that I'm gonna have to do this fiddly turn the radio off thing every time I back the car in until it gets fixed.....think its about 2.1m vertical opening when its working properly.

Why not just have it at half-height?

yeah i did this mod half height, but it was too hard to figure out how to do it with the antenna so i lowered the car instead, them 5" just give me anough clearance, at stock height bye bye antena! lol
