hey guys currently in QLD... have shell eco10 oil in my engine now... 10W-30... gonna go on a road trip from QLD to SYD to VIC to ACT then back to QLD... do you guys think the 30 oil is gonna damage my engine for the near 24 hrs constant 118km/h?? or should i change my oil to the shell helix plus fully syth 5w-40 before i go??

no seriously it will be fine! 5w-30 is the factory fill look in the back of the manual for oil grades....

mitsu reccommend 5w-50 its what the service dept was trying to sell me tooday telling me its the best oil for the job...

in all seriousness i ran the 10w30 full synth in a supercharged magna and it was fine

just take some oil with you as it's not uncommon to burn atleast 1L/1000km of engine oil on trips like that..... and that has nothing to do with the condition of the engine.... european cars are much worse for this though (it's how they are built, designed that way)

so when you stop for petrol, check the oil and top up as needed, not to mention check everything else under the bonnet too

BTW 118/kmh and you'll be lucky to make it to melbourne....... thats 8km over the limit in Vic on the Hume in the 110km/h zone and 2 demerit points i believe?!? not to mention the few fixed cameras you pass on the way.... set the cruise to 110km/h the police here in vic are hungry for your $$$ be careful

hahhaa... isnt there like 10% allowance?? i traveled up melb like 4 times this year always set the cruise to 117~118 using the gps to make sure... it shows near 120 on speedo... passed the police, and even those that display yr speed ... so far so gd... so fat onli had a ticket and thats for not braking hard enough on a 60 road... was going at 72... its like WTH!!! i slowed down from 110 to 72 give me a break officer... he said sorry mate... when u see 60 your speed should be 60... after a 15min argument he gave me the ticket and gave up talking to me... hahaha...

ur speed should be that speed by the time you pass the speed sign, thats just common road rules. and no theres isnt 10% allowance, its tough titties if ur speedo is out, coz theres is accurate (tho generally speaking, on country roads here they probably wouldnt chase u down for doing 105 in a 100 zone...but a radar will.)

then given a choice should i be using
1. castrol edge 5w-30
2. shell Ultra fully syth 5w-40
3. nulon 10w-30
4. nulon fully syth 10w-40

pls advice which to use...

Fully synth shell helix ultra 5w-40
or
the castrol edge R 5w-30

then given a choice should i be using

2. shell Ultra fully syth 5w-40
3. nulon 10w-30
4. nulon fully syth 10w-40



In Queensland I would not use any xW30 oil, 40 would be a minimum. I will add some more oils to your list.

hey i konw what u are saying... to be exact which i dont know why... the lifter noise is quieter after i put in the 10w-30 shell eco 10... sounds rediculars but its true... anyway i bought the shell fully syth 5w-40 today should be changing it some time soon...
