Hey guys,
I have a question about cruise on out TJ Sports manual.
When you set the cruise, it surges ahead pretty violently, increasing the speed a couple of k's and when u come to a hill it does the same insted of keeping the speed you set it at.

Does anyone elses do this?

My verada does it sometimes. Could be a fault or just the design.

Thats normal. It will increase a couple of K's and then will settle down.

i think htis is normal, because the cruise counters the removal of hte drivers foot from the pedal, its pretty common, happens in my dads landy, the lexus i drove, falcadores. you just get used to it

Both my TH and my TJ do this, so I'm guessing that it's a design 'feature'
Drove a couple of 380's a while ago which have the same looking cruise control, and they didn't surge at all, so looks like they have sorted that issue out

It's a bit of a pain to begin with, but you get used to it

I think it's normal, although definately more noticeable in the manual. Mine does it, so does my wife's auto.

Yes all Magnas up until TW have that surge when you engage cruise control.

I've found a way to counter it : When you press the cruise stalk down to set the cruise control, quickly press it down again.

Try it and see if it works -- Solved the problem in my TL.

And yes, the 380 cruise control no longer has this surge

ive been havin a play with it. I have found if you press it down, then lift your foot of the pedal straight away, there is no surge either.

Thanks for all the replies guys!!:D

I have always wondered about cruise control on a manual but that is your problem. there is no give in a manual box but the auto absorbs some of the extra grunt when the c/c decides to increase throttle opening and this softens the effect of same. Cheers

...and when u come to a hill it does the same ...
And you shouldn't be using your cruise control to go up hills. Read your Owners Manual

BTW, mine surges as well

I recently tried out the cruise control on my TE manual after i twisted my ankle and couldnt put the foot down, i found mine surges and the speed fluctuates between 5-10k diffeent to what i set it to. Overall i didnt think too much of the cruise control.

Probably because of the "fly by wire" throttle.

I have owned another "cable throttle" cruise control equipped car, and it behaved in a very similar way to the CC in my magna (eg. when first activated speed increases - then drops back to roughly the speed it was set to).

in my KL, i find its quite the opposite!
get up to speed i want to set it at;
turn on cruise;
activate it - but leave my foot at the same place on the accerator pedal for a second;
lift off foot - no surge

relax while the car drives itself.

my cruise doesnt fluctuate - i set it to 100, itl stay pretty much dead on 100.

i find that if i take my foot off at the same moment as activating the cruise, the car will surge / jolt.

the way i figure it, the motor that pulls on the cable is still 'taking up the slack' for a second or so which is why itl surge.

Yer drove my car (TE exec, manual) down to schoolies on the weekend :2cool: was my first drive out of town as ive only had her for a week. The cruise control was the only thing about the car i'm not really happy with!

Whenever i set cruise it would drop down about 4-5 kph below what i set it at and then surge back up to the set speed about every 3 or 4 minutes. Got used to it after a while tho and it sounds pretty common so i'm sure i can live with it!

Although im used to driving the parents BA futura which has perfect cruise control as its almost 10 years newer! lol
