hey all
as somewhat 'normal' with these cars, my fuel tank sender needed to be replaced - that got done around wednesday last week.
however, while the needle seemed 'uniform' in its descent from full to empty we came across an interesting fault i guess you could say.

the fuel light had been on for around 50km or so - but we knew that the guage was still reading emptier than it actually was and the needle moved to complete empty, but the fuel light didnt flash at me - still remained constant.
Got home, parked it, locked it and walked away and when we came BACk to the car the next day, the guage jumped up around the 1/4 rem mark with 250DTE, but it quickly dropped - and im sure i saw the needle 'bounce'!!!! lol
so i booked it back into mitsu to get it looked at again

dropped the car in with the guage showing that the fuel light was due to come on, picked it up thisafternoon and suddenly i had 1/4 rem again!
it hasnt dropped or bounced on me YET..

was reading thru the w/shop man, and it says that the computer needs to be reset when fitting a new tank sender - this HADDNT have been done the first time, but it HAS been done this time.
(reason i can tell, is my Alpine headunit lost all the settings this time around, whereas last time it didnt loose anything)

Mitsu are thinking that my actualy guage in the cluster might be at fault now - but thats a problem as we are driving the Verada to brisbane in the next week to move there.
After a lot of convincing and getting the service lady to speak to her supervisor we where told that the dealership here in mackay would honor the stat used car warrenty for that item only - if the mitsu dealership from brisy phoned the mackay office to get an purchase order number off them.

so im happy that they are going to honor the stat used car warrenty on this problem - but we where told in no uncertain terms that they will not honor ANYTHING else under the warrenty at all as its a "used car"

so could it be the guage thats at fault now?
or could it have been the tank sender at fault, but they didnt do an ecu reset?

(got a few other things looked at too while the car was in at mitsu, so all in all im quite happy with todays outcome - at least if there IS a problem still with the fuel tank / sender / guage, then they will cover it for me :) )

Why does the ECU need to be reset after replacement of fuel sender unit? I've had my fuel sender unit replaced twice over 2 years and don't think mitsubishi service department has reset my ECU.
Although I think there is something wrong with my guage cos soemtimes it drops a bit faster to 1/2 then the needle slowly moves up slightly and I mysteriosly gain a collumn of petrol.
I've asked mitsubishi about this and they say it's rare to have problem with guage in the cluster. They can do tests but it's not always right.

I still get a bit of that, I just use the fuel used meter on the trip computer which is less than 3% off now that I changed it from 3.0L to 3.5L (was reset when battery was disconnected at some stage, the thread (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53234)).

re the ecu reset - it was something that i read in the workshop manual.

the guage seems to be playing nicely atm, might have just needed a full tank to be able to work it all out again or something.

im hoping that i dont have to take it to a mitsu dealer down south to get it looked at again, but if it does look like its playing up then i will.
at least i wont have to pay for it :)
thats always a good thing im sure

cheers
