Where can I tap my alpine HU dimmer wire into? there is no dimmer wire in the stereo loom of my car.

I can only think to tap off into the climate control or the clock as they both dim when the lights come on. Does anyone know which wire to tap into?

I would normally use a ciggielighter but there is no light on this one.

hmm wouldve said the ciggy lighter light as well, afaik thought all models 1997 onwards had the light (and yes i'm assuming diamantes as well). some models dont dim when the 'illumination' wire is hooked up anyway, so maybe try hooking it up to a constant power and see how it goes?

I forgot about the hazard button, I'll tap into that.

i brought the adapters for my alpine unit to go into my kl rada, and the dimmer wire didnt go into anything as such.
i just leave the headunit on dim manually anyhow - but i have the the alpine cda 4100r (i think thats the model) with the motorised screen and coz its generally illegal to drive watching the screeen i leave it tucked away in the dash...

any illum wire that runs near to the headunit should do the trick id think

yeh seems some dim, some dont... on my eclipse, the illumination wire just makes the lights behind the buttons light up (regardless of whether lights are on or off)... was proven because when originally installed, they didnt bother hooking it up, and i lost out on my pretty colours :P

I used 'raptor' harness. I just cbf taking the dash apart at the moment. I'll pull it apart when i fit my rsm.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but its related to my query.

As a few of you know, I've just installed a Sony CDXGT760 headunit into ma Verada, and its got the dimmer wire too. Is there a wire coming out of the loom I can hook up to, since I do have 3 wires free from that loom not doing anything (was already cut up from an older after market deck), or do I need to connect it up to an existing wire on something else, and if so, exactly which wire? I'm not big on the guessing game, for instance I don't want to go cutting up the hazard wires one by one until I get the right one, I want to hit it in one go.

Its not like the headunit is annoyingly bright on its normal setting, but its sure as hell brighter than it could be, and manual dimming is too much of a pain in the rear end to do every time I drive at night.

Cheers guys.

^^^ It should be a green/white wire.

Cheers mate, I knew one of the spares had to fill this function, after all, the factory deck would have had lights which operated only when the headlights were on yes? Thanks mate.
