Ok started the magna today and it cranked kick over started then just stalled str8 away and then started it again and it did the same thing 3 times left it abit started it again it started and idled.

Driving about 200m and it stalled on me while i was doing 60kmh had to pull over and stop and start it it started fine and then stalled.

I have no idea what the problem is but i noticed that the wires on the TPS loom didnt look to healthy and wen i wiggle just the wires not the plug it changed the Revs up and down abit.

Also inside the TPS in the plug the connectors on both the TPS itself and the plug on the loom are green im guessing corosion.

Could this be the problem???

any help will be much thankfull.

Have you checked the IAC Motor (aka Stepper motor or idle speed controller)?

The TR/TS models are infamous for having issues with the IAC!

And the symptoms are exactly what you experience :

Engine cranks fine
Motor starts and revs to 1600rpm (as it should) fine
then drops to 0rpm

Oh, and don't go to Mitsubishi to get it fixed.....I paid $500 to have it replaced from a Mitsubishi dealer, that was back in 2002, on my old KS.

I believe you could save more than half the cost by getting an independent mechanic to do the job properly.

yer thats the symptoms and this would also probley answer a question i have with the air conditioner aswell it drops the revs to low.

Ok so how much are these and can u put them in yaself???

Sounds like the ISC, from mitsu $expensive , find a generic one.

Bursons and other auto places should have them.

p.s have you tried adjusting the idle screw? might be to low and the actual Isc might be fine still

The TPS can be cleaned, but if its a big build up of gunk could cause the problem to, try clean it out. Sometimes rough idle is caused by this

go for generics as mitsu parts are a few hundred each

ok so ill check on ebay for this item i think i have seen them on there before.

its the ISC motor is it is that the 1 located behind the intake manifold on the plenum?

i think this is the problem but should it actully stall my car to not running at all.

Like the whole engine switches off like i turn the key to off they REDs are still on but thats it.

Also its a 4cyl 2.6 if that makes anydifference.

is there a way i can check forsure that this is the problem?
Do i need the ISC or can i bypass it somehow.

also i only thought i needed it wen i started the engine on cold starts as this stalling has happened to me on a Normal running Temp engine doing 70 kmh.

what the hell is the ISC doing what is it for?

The ISC controls the bypass air that idles the car. If that motor fails closed, no bypass goes around the throttle and as a result, the engine has no air to run on and just stalls.

To by pass it you could just give it a tad of throttle while starting it up....

yer but if you saying on startup this has happened to me going at 70kmh with my foot down on the acelerator im thinking could the TPS do this aswell.

Cause i had a problem wen damn midas did an engine wash on my magna and water got in the plug of the TPS and it was holding gears longer and reving strange and so on.

i had to try and clean it out and stuffed took me 2 clean it twice before it ran right.

was thinking maybe this is the problem.

I have no trouble starting the car i never have it just happened 2 times starting the car and then once at 70kmh on the Hway.

i Pulled over and started her up again and went home no problems wiggle the TPS loom abit it splattered and spurted and then took it home.

ISC should only come into play when your foot is off the accelerator, so I doubt it's your problem, or at least not all of it. The ISC adjusts your idle to compensate for varying loads, like aircon etc.
Though it doesn't sound like the problem, in reply to the bypassing q, I'm sure you could probably come up with some method to bypass it, but you'd then have to set your idle high enough to cope with whatever is thrown at it, making idling at low loads very high.

Huh, just saw that an admin's edited my sig, after 3yrs...!?

Ok so now im starting to think it is the TPS.

Its the most obvious thing that looks stuffed on the car and i did have problems with it before i just cleaned the connectors and plugged it back in and it worked.

Im going to have a look at that today.

Yer i think the ISC has been stuffed for awhiel actully anyways cause wen i turn the aircom on the revs drop and dont go up under load so that problem has always been there but i was told you dont need it anyways as i dont use the aircon.

And also on cold starts i have no trouble with idle goes to 1600rpm no worries and drops down as it gets warmer.

So im really leaning to the TPS guys.

Ok pulled the TPS plug off used a fine file and etched at the four prongs on the TPS got some of the green corosion off them and then did abit of the plag idled fine didnt stall.

Took it for a quick drive no stalling brang it home no stalling.

Everything seem fine maybe this was the problem but will let you know if it occurs again.

OK problem presisted yesterday after futher investigation i got it going but stalling again and again but alsi a click noise c9oming from engine when the Reds were on.

NRMA came out check a few things with his best tools a FILE,BLOWER AIR HOSE,WIRE BRUSH on the dizzy plug as it was abit corrored.

Now i got it started and we drove it to the Autoelectrician now its been there over night and it was stufing up so he had to wait for it to stuff up and stall b4 they could diagnose the problem of the stalling.

Now got a phone call today to say that the problem was the ECU that it was stuffed and was going to cost me $500 fully installed.

I had a spare ECU in my garage out of a TR magna it even has TR magna on the back in Texta and came out of a Fully working TR Magna as i bought it for $400 for some spare parts.

Took the ECU down to them and he said it will only cost you $40 so i was cheering but then he said it probley wont work because the MAT numbers are different.

Now is this true or utter bull****??? because this came off the same style 4Cyl 2.6LT engine as what runs in my missus TR that is down there getting fixed.

can i get some help.

should it work?

If its the exact same model it sounds like bullsh|t to me, except if its some special type of magna that was imported which I doubt!

Was the clicking noise from engine or left hand side in the actual car? It is normal to have a small burst clicking noise when you crank the key over.

Id stay their when his installing it, just to make sure his not lying and wanting money

if its the same model and part no. as your car it should work fine. bring the car back to your house and install the ecu yourself, its not that hard to do :D

Ok well i went and had a look the diagnosed the problem and showed the ECU it was burnt and stuffed he tried the ECU i gave him and it works sweet as.

I Paid $45 he did diagnose it and i left it there over night and they are pretty allrite guys.

i had a similar problem with my TX3 turbo the Ignition Modulator went so i had 2 get apart for it and it was $600 just for this 1 little part cause i had 2 buy a whole dizzy to get the 1 little part inside it it was a damn joke.

hey thanks if i need any spares i will be in contact.

Funny bought a spare TR 2.6Lt for $400 i just got $455 out of it lol
