Hello...
It's gone. My car is finished.
On the way home last night I lost control of it over a twisty turn and the front of the car is now totalled. I am certain it's a statutory writeoff.
I bought the car in July. It was coming up to its 5 month of ownership and I had barely put 5,000 km on it. I did not have premium insurance so the money I paid is gone too.
I feel terrible. How do I cope with this? I won't have another car for a while now while I pay the personal loan on this one. I feel bad and I feel for everyone else who has ever had to go through it.
If you have been through somehting like this please share so I can see the light a little. It was my first car and I was emotionally attached to it and to see it go so suddenly and so violently.... It is just not fair.
I'll put up some pics later.
Can't even sleep.

Hey mate, that really sucks.
You could get some of your money back by parting out your car here. Another member has been doing that recently. I'm sure there are plenty of Verada parts that people want to get a hold of, could help you out a bit too.

I know how you feel.
I lost my first car, a KR Verada wagon, after I was rear ended. I was able to remove all the mods before she went to the assessment centre, but even now, driving a TL, I still miss my old car. I was shattered when it happened.

Sorry to hear you lost your car mate......
At very least - I'd say you've learnt the value of comprehensive insurance. And I don't know if it's possible or not - but try not to get attached to cars in future, they're just hunks of metal after all.

but they are hunks of metal with feelings and stuff!!!!
I know how he feels, when you work hard for something, and put a lot of effort into it, it is very hard to see it go.

That's horrible. I hope it's not a write off for your sake.

first of all, glad you are safe mate, you have that much on your side.
Now your primary concern should be to cut down that loan as soon as possible, nothing worse than paying for something you dont have. i would do what was suggested here and sell the car part by part, as difficult as that sounds it will offer the maximum amount of renumeration (sp?).
As for what to do, suck it up and keep going, cant really dwell on what happened otherwise you will get dragged down by it. Focus on the fact that you are still here and able to keep going, alot of peopel dont get that opportunity.

Going through my serious incident 6 months ago now I do sympathise with you for the loss of your car, I put so much into it over the years only to see it a crumpled wreck after the truck minced it (and me). Fortunately I did have full comp insurance but when I was younger I could only afford the most basic insurance... I don't want to harp on in your time of misfortune but I say to many people, try to avoid getting loans for cars, especially if you're young as things are so stacked against you. Only get what you can really afford, even if you have to sacrifice on the quality of the car for the sake of better insurance.
I hope you can get it sorted soon and find some peace, I have a constant reminder having a leg that doesn't work very well now, having to still lift it with my hand into the car and such, I'm glad you don't have more personal injuries to deal with too... that said, keep an eye out on your health for the next two weeks at least... if you start getting a sore back or something strange out of the blue get it checked out.
Hope things get better
Look after yourself
Geeze...sorry to hear about that man.
Glad to see your ok though. Where abouts in vic did you do this? I'm presuming it was fault of your own? I hope you've at least learned a lesson about capabilities of both the car and yourself in the wet.
Best of luck with everything man. On the bright side, because its a verada, as mentioned it probably won't be too hard to get some money back by parting out whats not damaged. I'm sure they'd be people around interested in the Verada seats, woodgrain dash inserts, stereo and so on. At least then it wouldn't be a total loss.

I slammed my first magna into a tree. miss the ol TP... but i think the bonus thing was that i had bought it outright by saving up so i was able to get my next one with out worrying about paying off a loan... its sucks still though losing your first car...

Same, especially when you don't have comp insurance.
But as was said earlier, at least your ok.

Just one thing that confuses me, and I wonder if anyone here has a better understanding than me, but I thought if you got a loan for a car that most lenders made it a requirement to have comprehensive insurance on it?
Or is it different because it was a personal loan, not a car loan?

Now that you mention it I think I have heard of that too.

Thanks for all the wise comments. I'm already beginning to move on although this was my first real car and I had an emotional attachment to it. and Many good memories.
It's still hard.

Hey mate, I sort of know what you mean. I didn't realise how attached I was to my first car, a 94 Barina, until I saw it driving away for the last time. It's your first car, makes it different somehow.
Good thing is you can part it out, so at least you can recoup some of the loss.

Did you damage both sides there? How did you manage that without doing the front in? Doesn't look all that bad you know, probably a repairable write off, but you could still fix that I think, if you can get the money from somewhere.

Hi all
Where could I take it to fix it? Any good places? I'm willing to spend up to $4k to fix it if that's what it'll take. In need of a helping hand...

looks like you'll need a whole new front end and a donor car... if you are willing to spend up to 4k on repairs, only sensible thing is to spend that on another car. based on the images you provided, it looks like you whole front axle has moved back a bit might have move the engine and gear box as well. it would most likely classed as a repairable write off. but it certainly not worth fixing it, i had something similar happen to me except i had full comp insurance.
After having two cars written off, I do feel your loss. They may be metal objects, but they do have feelings and emotions.
And, after having two cars written off, even though they were both not my fault, I'm definately paying comprehensive insurance. Having dealt with a few, I'm more than pleased with AAMI, so I'm definately insuring my next car with them.
Parting cars out is the best way to make back your money, if you have the space and time to do so.
And, it'll buff out :)

You got it in one, if it was a personal loan and not specifically from a vehicle fiancier, then the odds of that sort of requirement are highly unlikely, though yes most car loan services require comprehensive.

The car had two big shunts each side as it skidded from side to side on the bridge where i crashed it. both very heavy too. Didn't hurt one bit but I knew this was going to be nasty.
Great to hear so much support from you all though, it really means a lot to me along with all of my mates that have come through to keep me company while I get through this phase.
Already looking forward. The longer it passes the more it sinks in and the more you can deal with it it seems. A very hard but valuable lesson in defensive driving.

No problem man...I know a few people who've made mistakes like this, and all I can say is, could've been worse, could've injured yourself or someone else. Life goes on aye.
Did the airbags go off?
I always found it quite amusing how Richard Hammond describes an airbag like being punched in the face. That means cars are now equipped to smack you one in the face when you make a mistake, but then they're marked off as a "safety feature" so people don't complain :bowrofl:

Airbags didn't deploy, because it was not a front on accident. As accidents go it was really weird. Engine runs fine but the gears obviously don't do anything, not sure if the drive shafts have popped out of what (As in the torque converter doesn't even engage, the engine free revs).
I'm curious to know if the damage is or really isn't as bad as it looks. You see since the shunt was not from the front there is a good chance the A links and springs are only bent and the chassis might still be intact. I need to speak with someone who has experience in repairing this car and gives good quotes on it.
I've gone from denial to anger to 'curious' now. Acceptance isn't far off.
Cheers.
