6x9s off headunit, nice 6" splits up front, reasonable 4 channel amp running sub and splits, 1 x sealed 12"
Focus money on the splits this is where ul hear the most benefit

Sub will be greatly under powered with this setup though.
Are you on a tight budget. IMO if you can afford to your much better get a 4ch to run the fronts and backs, and a monoblock for the sub.
im using a JL monoBlock (200wrms) and JL (4x70WRMS) amp, Using Pretty High quilaty Spilts costin bout 380bucks, ive looked into it, an i dont want the sub 2 override everything, so im not gonna rush into it
So what are you basically asking then? What sub setup to go with? You seem to have everything else worked out.
Does your hu have 3 preouts?

what do you want out of your music? for example, someone like tim would recomend say a focal /hertz/ID Max sub
someone like nick might reccomend a DD sub
personally i am in love with the Rockford Fosgate Power series.... absolutely awesome sub!
i want somthing classy, not 2 much bass, but jst enough,,,... ive been told sealed is better than ported, an yeah jst confused with what i want with the subs

a good ported box will most likely sound better than a sealed but its friggen hard to make a good ported box, definitely go sealed in my opinion.
If you only have 200wrms dont expect much bass, in my opinion you need to be playing with 400wrms plus to make it loud enough.
Maybe try looking at entry level focals or even a type R sub if your budget isnt huge (Second hand FTW!)

i dont agree, my 1st real audio system consisted of a 200wrms 4ch 6x9's off the deck clarion splits off ch 1 & 2 and 3&4 bridged running a mid range JL audio in ported :( box and it pumped nice and good....
just cos your sub may say 500w on it dosent mean it has to have minimum 500w

ported or sealed doesnt matter, my mate works for JB hi-fi, an hes good mates with the installer, so he settin me up the box, or ill jst buy a high quillity QMAX box, they make killer boxs
stick with theme, get a 12W3 and stick it in a sealed box. should be good for 130dB'ish in the magna, and itll sound great :)

If its under powered just get a bigger 4 channel amp 4 x 100, 4 x 120 etc.
There your looking at ~500 w rms into a sub = plenty of power for daily driving.
If you want a good box, dont go a prefabby, and dont get JB to do it, get a proper custom car audio shop to make it, or make it yourself. 18mm mdf minimum.
Lookin around $150 for a nice box.
If I were to recommend subs I would recommend, ID, PG, Treo, DD etc. But depends how much you want to throw at it.
Whats wrong with one of those JBL or Kenwood subbies in a box for $150 odd at JB :P

Haha, who's taking notes??
I had a JL10W3D2v2 and it was great, i got 129db out of that system, 6.5 MB quarts and sub off a Boss, yeah, thats right, a BOSS amp! My DD doesn't really pump ALL that much harder than the JL, it does go lower and tears the JL's heart out with deep bass tones BUT.. I'd recommend the same as the boys who know, treo (probably too pricey), Hertz have a cheap deal on their 12's at the moment (entry level), JL are decent for subs, W3 FTS (for the sub :P), ID if you can afford (like treo) PG - eh, haven't been too surprised by them.. yet..
It's sad that you're siding with your mate from JB, as they only sell ****, sorry but I had to say it.. I got my MB's from them on sale though! Try FHRX studios (http://www.fhrxstudios.com.au/) if you're close enough, get them to install it, they know their shiz.
Get yourself some focal or eclipse (or MB) 6.5" splits, Alpine Type R 2ways for the rear and if you don't want a massive box, perhaps a Alpine Type R 12" and run that off a meaty amp, it should do the trick nicely, but audition your gear before you buy it from fanboys and SALESMEN. I sat in a work colleges VZ Monaro last week, $6K sound system and mine cooked it, I don't even have my splits or 6x9's amped, but in SQ it got the better, he paid all that because he didn't want to 'tear the leather' on the seats and pissed it away as far as I'm concerned, basically said "Here's my wallet, go rip me a new one". He did have great bass from two 8" Earthquakes running free on his parcel shelf but I'm sure he'll nuke them sooner or later.. No top end, no sparkle.. It's as if it stopped at 15,000khz... high but no where near enough, high hats and top hats were dead, lifeless and empty.. Sad.. BAHAHAHHAA sucker.

I would DEFINITELY recommend getting one higher quality sub then getting two lower quality subs regardless of subs. dont think that one wont be loud enough, if you hear a very higher power handling sub with some grunt to push it you will understand that one is more than enough, just get one tha handle some power and that you have enough grunt to power it. Brands mentioned like Focal, JL, DD, Hertz and the like are all good. I have never heard them, but from a few very knowldegable car audio people I want to upgrade to a Rainbow Hammer sub, supposed to blow anything close to its price away, though they seem very hard to find, because I havent come across the brand to demo it yet.
Ollie
yeah i heard Rainbow are very good subs,,,theres a joint in adelaide that sell them, i think im gonna stick with a full JL audio system, 6x9's, Splits an sub an amps....

if your going subs why do you wanna waste your money on 6x9's for?
sure they give you some rear fill thats about it... do you drive from the back seat?
i took mine out, and there was a noticable improvment in bass! i recently put them back in as i had my system running off the factory headunit, no subs or amps, and it's not any better than when it was just front stage and subs.... the 6x9's will be coming out again when my tv antenna and rear camera arrives

i have TWO alpine Type R subs, and i dont know if you are an audiophile or what not, but in a proper sealed box they go loud, very very loud, i think its near impossible to get a compromise between SQ and SPL, unless you spend big money, i suggest that if you want to listen to good quality music with bass fill then focus on the splits like focal (no pun intended). And then get a soundstream/treo/RF mid range sub, that sounds like a good balance.
6x9's are are complete waste especially in a SPL set up because the amount of air moving in the boot plays havoc with FTA speakers. not to mention redundancy. Focus on the driver, stuff everyone else :P.

Remember that 'mid range' speakers in the quality dept (not talking **** JB brands) is in the 300-400 area and subs are more the 400-500 for mid range, top end is in the thousands.

Often a good idea, but JL make pretty decent speakers and subs, and i think their amps are pretty good too. Though I woudnt say you should keep to the same brand, dont think your doin much harm sticker to JL for the stuff ur after.

Yeah for the money I would look else where for the splits ( the entry level has a poor xover ). The amps are pretty good but there are better value Italian amps and the subs are great but again better value American / South African woofers. It will be by no means a bad system though. Just make sure you audition the gear first. :D

That has to be the most important phrase in the car audio handbook. Audition, audition, audition!! You're not going to know what you're missing out on until you've finally installed your gear and then the next day you meet up with your mate and he's got a new install and his stuff was either cheaper or the same price and whoops your's. It's murphys law after all!
