The answer is probably no 99.999% but just to put my head to rest can this be repaired for under $4k? I'd still do it as I love this car
If so who do I need to talk to? Any knowledgeable members who have any idea how to go about this? I would be happy to reimburse someone from Melbourne to come and have a look at it if they live close by (PM me).
Trying to figure out what to do.
FYI: There is a lot of oil leakage from under the car ... the engine though still runs so My guess is the gearbox is shot. How do I find out if this thing can be repaired. Are there good repair shops around Melbourne who could have a look at this?
Thanks
I'm speculating here, for I don't know for sure, but I'd say it's highly unlikely that can be fixed safely for under $4000.
Whereabouts in Melbourne are you?

Probably easier to buy other car:think:

Probably looking at $8000+ for the full repair. You could probably get a new verada of that price.

Damn dude. Unlucky:doubt:
Respray/panel work and gearbox would eat 4g, not to mention all the suspension that will need to be replaced. Chassis would need pullin.
If you were doin it yourself from the wreckers then you may scrape in, Sorry bud.
How much you owe? if you dont mind me askin. maybe able to recover cost from stripping it out....

you can have my car for 4grand!!!! i'll just use it to put a down payment for another... i'm still using mobil 1 5w-50 on it and its hasn't lost a drop and mechanics tell me its too thin an oil for it age... actually i'll give it to you for 3500
I'd take up boozers offer man. Take that for $3500 (if thats a serious offer) and put all the rada trimmings into it. Sell the rest of the stuff you dont want then send her off to the wreckers. Better than nothing :)

what the heck happened??
its not looking good, ontop of panels, that kind of damage would have definitely damaged the drive shafts and possibly the transmission..
if u did most of the work yurself then u could get away with it for around $4g.
If u put it in a shop youd be up for more then that

Boozers offer looks pretty good man, and if anything, you could transplant the parts you want from yours to boozers car, wouldnt be too difficult in comparison with a full repair job. The back 75% of your car from what i can see looks in good nick, so you have alot that you can offer for sale in parts (colour coded mirrors, verada interior, verada rear etc) i say you could make back at least 1 - 1.5 K (correct me someone if i am wrong) and then boozers car at 3.5 so you are only 2.5 K outta pocket, which considering is not too bad.
shibbs
Thats exactly it, although to me (well I guess it depends how much you owe), I'd be putting as much of the verada stuff into the magna as possible. So Verada rear end, verada seats, power windows, dome lights all that sorta stuff.

How did you manage to get both sides with near identical damage without damaging the front?

From the other thread:
The car had two big shunts each side as it skidded from side to side on the bridge where i crashed it. both very heavy too. Didn't hurt one bit but I knew this was going to be nasty.

just look at this pic and cry, this was my car and the insurance classed it a repairable write off they paid out $8100 instead of fixing it. all the damage is on the side you can see, the rest is smick! the door looks open in the pic was because i opened the door to get something out as the picture was taken.

A bit of update .. this is what I learnt today (this may change as I still don't have a quote).
The car will need these parts:
2x guards - $200
1x front grill - $50
1x door cover ~$100
front paras - $300
bumper and bonnet - lets say $400?
Gearbox - $700
2x Shafts - $450
Springs and shocks and what have you not -- pure guess -- ~ $600
bits and pieces $100
total: $2900
Then there is labour: god knows how much.
Need to straighten the edges out
Need to inspect the chassis -- It doesn't look damaged when I looked under the car
Inside the engine bay looks intact -- engine oil has not leaked, engine runs fine, aircon works, cooking has not leaked, all pipes etc are attached, gearbox has lost all its oil which I guess is because of a crack in its casing somewhere.
So parts would be around let's say $2900 as above,
If I am lucky I might be able to get the labour on it for another $2500 (never mind the spraying, I'll do that in due time)
Is this plausible to anyone? Recommended?
As I see it if I can pull this I'd be in for $7000+$5400 = $12400 for a Verada which is around $4400 above market price so I'd be in deep for $4400. If I wreck it out piece by piece I'll be lucky to be down for $5500, if I send it to the heap I'd be out $6500. I think it may be worth a shot going for repairs.

its might not drive like your old baby anymore.... but hey, i would have liked to my smashed one back... but i didn't. hope it works out for you.
How many K's has it done man? $5400 is a lot for a repairs to a KF Ei, hell I'm looking into buying a KF Xi atm under $6k. If the car means a lot to you then you could do it, you can't really get another one cheaper than $5k (bearing in mind the Xi I'm looking at is a one off rary nearly all are $9k+), most Ei's still sit around the $7-8k mark.
Your gonna be out of pocket regardless of which way you look at it. The more you can do yourself the better. If you paid to get the mechanics done, do you think you could fit the new panels yourself? That'd save a lot.
Edit: Surely you could fit the guards, grille (who cant do these), front bar, bonnet and even maybe the lights yourself? That'd knock a grand off the labour at least if its $2500 all up, I would think anyway.

I say go for it, if you are handy with the spanners....

It's sittin on 115,860 at the moment. All the Veradas you mentioned and I look at regularly are over 200,000km. Just can't find a low k one unless I spend another $8k. :-(

For sure. If I get it straightened up I;d just ask them get the basics done and I'd get it home (after road testing it ofcourse) with no panels or paint on. Then I'd slowly start fitting new panels and painting them. I'd imagine I could easily save a grand doing the cosmetics myself.

Hell thinking about it I might as well do a manual conversion, since I'm getting a new box anyway. hmmm

you havent meioned anything about insurance and a claim?
what happened who was at fault?
personally i'd claim it and either buy the wreck if i had the space so i could part the goodies out, or send it to the tip, definatley wouldnt repair it!
it'll never be the same dude, and how can you justify 6+k in repairs on an old verada when for a few $$ more a genuine one could be had un broken ;)

He already talked about this in another thread. He only had third-party and he was at fault.

ahh sory to hear that then man......

Yeah Boozers offer of $3500 is much better than trying $2900 of repairs plus labour.
what happened who was at fault?
I'm pretty sure he was the the only car involved....can't blame the bridge for the accident lol
I reckon go the manual conversion if your happy to drive a manual. Might actually mean you'll get a bit more back later on when you sell it, manual Veradas are next to impossible to find, mainly to do with 3rd gen ones never rolling off the production in manual form.

Ok I've been quoted "around 2-3K for labour". So I'm dropping it off for a good look at it by the repair shop. We'll see how I go. Im keen to fix it and then sell it, and I should still be ahead of sitting until I sell all its parts off (too much hassle and heatache).

Your resale value will suffer heavily because of the accident I'd say.
Did it end up being classed as a write-off?

It has not been classified as anything since I never needed to file a report or contact insurance.
I will fix it well and sell it as a normal vehicle. I am entitled to that much I'd say.
At this stage I'm looking at ~$5000. Terrible cost to pay for an accident no matter which way you cut it.

no you are not entitled to sell it off as a normal vehicle and pretend nothing has happened to the car, its only fair that you inform the new owner that it had had a smash and that you have fixed it PROPERLY. its only ethical. but thats my honest opinion.

Yeah mate if you sell it off without telling the buyer that is really dodgy and dishonest. How would you feel if down the track you discovered a car you'd paid good money for had been crashed and you hadn't been told?
Doubt very much it is worth $5k after it's been crashed like that and repaired either.

Chances are person who buys it may become a member on this forum. How would you feel then :( Pretty sad. If you sell it do the right thing and tell them it has had a hit.
Do the right thing fella and it wont come back to bite ya.
