Folks,

Do you guys use normal engine oil in a Magna 3.5lt engine that runs on LPG or duel fuel?

I know there are some engine oils tagged as LPG Engine oils/suitable for LPG engines available at chepco, autobarn. Is there any benefit of using those oils over standard engine oils?

I was reading a thread on Commondore site and as they said LPG engine oils are more suitable for LPG engine because they

a) have a higher viscosity rating in order to have similar actual viscosities at higher temperatures while running on LPG as do conventional oils running on petrol.

b) buffered, ie. pH stabilised, to prevent acid damage (corrosion) of internal engine parts caused by combustion products unique to LPG. Mostly I think nitrogen based acids produced as a consequence of higher combustion temperatures.

Any thought on that?

LPG is a totally different burn to petrol. It does not produce a carbon deposit (thats why new engines built to run on LPG must usually be run on petrol first to bed in the rings) It is a dry gas so has a higher cylinder burn temperature (no petrol mist for cooling) It also has a much higher octane so motors can run a higher compression ratio.
Anyway, I once had a 351 cleveland race motor built to run on LPG and was ordered by the builder to use specific LPG oil.
