Hi all :)
Just hoping to get some advice I'm going to be travelling to Brisbane in a few weeks and I decided I would like to try and get a big stereo install done while I'm there since I rarely get to travel there. My ideal setup would be new speakers throughout, with an extra speaker installed in each rear door and either one or two subs in the boot. I need a new head unit too, and obviously an amp or two. I'm aiming for between 5-7 grand in total including labour and parts so has anyone else had an install done within that kind of budget range and did you happen to go with Blaupunkt or would I be better off trying for a mix-and-match setup like some people have, or a different brand altogether?
Thanks in advance for any help that I can get!

Healthy budget.
Prob head to MCS and sample some Hertz / Focal gear? Not to sure who else does stuff up there...

If I can get an awesome install done for less than I mentioned I'm sure I'll have a much easier time coming up with that money too lol.

Hey Bud, for the money your looking at spending dont consider Blaupunkt. Their stuff is ok, but if your happy to spend up to $7k you can have one VERY nice system.

I've gotta get a loan no matter what and I figure (read: hope) I can borrow up to $10k which I'll be spending part of on fixing my car, part of on xmas presents, part of on 12 months rego, and basically the rest on stereo. If I can get the kind of install that I want for less than I'm prepared to pay then I have more of a chance of getting the loan in the first place..

Word. Loans are bad ideas all round. Blauphucked can.. yeah you get it.
6K.. DAMN, i wish i had that to spend on mine! Question, why the HELL do you want speakers in your rear doors? for those with ears on their ankles? Parcel shelf speakers are there for a reason dude, use it.
My set-up has cost me so far:
Eclipse CD5425 - $400 (inc install, i'm lazy so WHAT)
MB 6.5" splits - $300
MB 6x9 3ways - $250
Repsonse AA0424 (500x1@4o) - $250
DD 1512 (inc box) - $300ish
that's $1500.. all bar HU installed by me.. $6k.. that'd be all DD for me :P..
Have a chat with Ford Fella (Mark) He works at Autobarn Capalaba but they do DD, Hertz, Infinity and other good gear, may juuuuuuust be worth it! (MCS=$6k for a chat)
Eclipse HU - Less than 1K for flagship non-dvd HU (dvd's are for wanks, right andrewd?)
Dynaudio 6.5 splits - $650
Hertz Hienergy coax - $230 (rear fill)
Precision power a500/2 amp - $450 (rears off HU)
DD3512 - $940
Repsonse 1500wrms mono - $700
Dynamat - $400
Install - $1300 give or take. Dynamat yourself and it's cheaper again! KILLER!

Disregarding you getting a loan for your stereo i suggest gong and listening to some quality car audio gear.
Just have a listen, then let your ears decide what kind of sound you want. Blaupunkt like bose is a lot of advertising and not necessarily that good.
I suggest: Dynaudio, Morel, Vifa, Scanspeak speakers
Tru Tech, soundstream, mb quart, alpine amps
Alpine is a safe bet for a source but many higher end options here are good.
Image Dynamics, Digital Designs, Treo, Earthquake, Diamond Audio for subs.

Haha well I just wanted to know how much to ask the bank for really, looks like I'll be ok if I settle for about 5k total which = ~$1500 repairs, ~$1000 presents for my entire family, and ~$3500 left for the stereo install? Does everyone think rear door speakers are a waste of time? I need any and all advice I can get (not about the loan part though :P )

well put it this way. I've been in a car with just 6x9's in front and 6.5's infront and still need to turn it down so you can actually talk from backseat to driver/passenger seat.
The placement of speakers in your car at the moment have been designed for decent sound waves etc and no quiet/loud spots. Speakers near your feet will likely get damaged and reduce the already small feet space that the rear passengers have. Getting a top quality set of 6x9's at the back instead of spending the same on 2 sets of speakers for parcel shelf and ur feet will easily be worth it. Also, you're going to be driving, you want the sound near you. Spend a bit extra on the 6.5's instead of gettin 2 sets of speakers for the back and you'll be right. Some of the best systems have gone on the less is more. Fewer speakers, better quality speakers though. It's your choice but the option i think 3 posts above mine sounds good for what you want, can just mix and match with that and it'll still be approx same price

Ok then so I'll obliterate the idea of rear door speakers :uzi: :zap:
And I'll also aim for a more modest budget of around $3500 or less if possible.
Still gonna go for the replacement of all current speakers and the addition of 1-2 subs and 1-2 amps. Question: The small circles that look like they'll pop out that are located on the outer edges of my dash; are they meant to be for speakers or for something else? Can I use them for speakers anyway? Cup holder maybe?

those are for the mids in veradas, really not the best place for any sort of speaker, so just leave it be for now :)
as previously mentioned, i'd suggest the top end Eclipse deck (CD7100), maybe Morel/Focal/Dynaudio splits, Audison amps, Eclipse 6x9s up the back (dont spend too much), Morel/DD/Treo sub/s, Audison/Soundstream amp/s for the Sub/s
but have a listen to it all, see what u think :)
*Edit* wow just noticed, new eclipse decks finally have detachable face :)
also if you get the eclipse deck, may as well get the ipod controller as well (iPC-606)

Na mate it only sounds good because of how it was installed. Marty at Fhrx studios took about 3 hours stage my front components. Not many people dislike it because of the time spent setting it up properly.

Yeah, it's like anything good, it needs time & TLC to really give it a chance otherwise it'll seem like the next old shiz in line.

With that kina money - whatever floats your boat really....pesonally i'd get a small healthy install for 1000 bucks and invest the rest. Just my opinion...:doubt:
