Howdy, my names Nathan & im 16 y/o. Although i dont have a Magna (yet, gotta sell me Commo) I need help from you guys.

My mate has aquired a Mitsubishi Pajero V6 & the motor has seized & we need to know is it possible to fit a Magna V6 in it? I know you need to spin it around as a Pajero is RWD but could it still be done??

Anyhoo, the Magna I'm after is a 1997 TF Magna 3L V6 5sp manual. Sorry I dont have any pics yet but its sitting at the car yard I work at & hopefully it wont sell before i sell my Commodore VN 5sp. Its been sitting in undercover storage for 12 months & its only come out cause a rolling chassis needs its spot out of the weather until this weekend. Anyway, its gold in colour, 223,000km, 1 elderly owners who travelled around Oz in it. It has a tiny hole in the exhaust too & it sounds soooo effin wicked & I plan on never fixing it :p

Anyway, hope you guys can help me out, thanks

What model or generation Pajero? There are so many types with different engines in them. If you can get the size or model of the engine or the model of the car I could help you out more.

With your Magna, what engine is in it and what level?
TF's are still pretty nice cars. Definitely an upgrade from your VN.

The motor in my Magna is a 3L & Im pretty sure its just an Executive.

As for the Pajero, Im unsure what year but it would be late 1980's - I think it shared the same shape as the Holden Jackeroo.

Pajeros

The first generation made its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 1981, and was launched in May 1982. Initially, it was a three-door, short-wheelbase model available with a metal or canvas top and three different engines options:

* 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol (2000/2.0)
* 2.6-litre 4-cylinder petrol (Astron 2.6)
* 2.3-litre naturally aspirated diesel (2300 D)
* 2.3 liter turbocharged diesel (2300 TD/2.3 TD)

Finally in 1988, a 3.0-litre SOHC V6 engine was made available, alongside a 2.5-litre turbo diesel engine, with the first 4x4 intercooler.

The first generation was introduced on May 7, 1982 and manufactured until 1991.

This type it?

Go to here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pajero) and see what type his is. If its a similar engine, Chances are it can be put in and rigged up to work.

Yep that sounds right. So its a First Generation with a 3.0L V6.

Then Im pretty sure, after translating the german version of the pajero encyclopedia, that the 1st gen 3L is a 6G72, which is what Magna V6 3L's are.

Beautiful. So hopefully there should be minimum fuss in putting a Magna motor in it then....I spose it will be me ending up doing the conversion too....

I wouldn't exactly say that..... there are 2 different types of 6g72 motors in magnas (3L V6 in the TR-TS series, and 3L V6 in the TF-TJ series) and they aren't interchangeable. So I can't see how you could just whip an engine out of a magna and dump it into a pajero.

Not saying it won't be possible, just saying I don't think it would exactly be "minimum fuss". Minimum fuss would be sticking a working engine out of the same model pajero into your mates pajero.

We were quoted $1200 for a 2nd hand Pajero motor & that is just ridiculous. You could buy a V6 Magna for that so thats what gave me the idea of buying one, ripping the motor out, spinning it around the other way & dropping it into the Pajero.

defs different intake manifolds and i think they might be direct injection. Im personally a bit suss on the magna 6g72 working in the paj.

And then you have a magna with no engine..... which is worthless and takes up half your front yard.

Great idea.

I used to work with a guy that had a 1st gen Pajero v6 which he replaced the motor with a TR v6.You need to change the rocker covers, inlet and exhaust manifolds,timing belt cover, water pump, sump plus a few other bits .The Magna v6 has knock sensor a higher compression ratio than the Pajero v6 there for more power.

Hmmm but where would i get a Magna bottom end from? By the time I pulled all the good bits off the Pajero's motor i might as well pull them off a complete Magna motor anyway.

Will the FWD V6 will bolt straight into the Pajero engine mounts??

Storage of the doner Magna is not a problem as we have a paddock full of cars.
